Every justice of the peace, minister, and clerk or keeper of the records of a meeting wherein marriages among Friends or Quakers are solemnized shall make and keep a record of each marriage solemnized before him, or in such meeting, and of all facts relating to the marriage which are required to be recorded by section one of chapter thirty-two of the Public Statutes. He shall also, between the first and tenth days of the month following each marriage solemnized by him, return each certificate issued under the provisions of sections sixteen and seventeen of this chapter, to the clerk or registrar who issued the same ; and if the marriage was solemnized in a city or town other than the place or places in which the parties to the marriage resided, return a copy of the certificate, or of either certificate in case two were issued, to the clerk or registrar of the city or town in which the marriage was solemnized. Each certificate and copy so returned shall contain a statement giving the place and date of marriage, and shall be attested by the signature of the person who solemnized the same, with his official station and residence added thereto. All certificates or copies so returned shall be recorded by the clerk or registrar receiving the same, and every person neglecting to make the record and returns required by this section shall forfeit for each neglect not less than twenty uor more than one hundred dollars.

[Passcd May 4, 1804.] AN ACT IN AMENDMENT AND IN ADDITION TO CHAPTER 85 OF THE PUBLIC STATUTES, "OF REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS."


It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:


SECTION 1. Section 17 of Chapter 85 of the Public Statutes is hereby amended so as to read as follows : "SEC. 17. The town clerks or other officers appointed under this chapter to collect, record and return the births in the several cities and towns, shall receive fees therefor as follows: For making record and return of these facts as required by law, twenty cents for each entry and return ; to be paid hy the city or town in which the hirth is recorded."


SEC. 2. The clerk or registrar of each town and city shall on the first day of each and every month make a certified copy of all births, marriages and deaths recorded in the books of said town or city during the previous month, whenever the parents of the child horn, or the hride or the groom, or the deceased person, were resident in any other town or city in this State or in any other state at the time of said hirth, marriage or death; and shall transmit such certificd copies to the clerk or registrar of the town, city or state in which such parents of the child horn, the bride or the groom, or the deceased. were resident at the time of said birth. marriage or death, stating in case of a hirth, the name of the street and number of the house, if any, where such parents resided, the place of hirth of such parents and the maiden name of the mother, whenever the same can be ascertained ; and the clerk or registrar so receiving such certified copies shall record the same in the books kept for recording births, marriages and deaths. Such certified copies shall be made upon blanks to he furnished for that purpose hy the secretary of the state hoard of health. SEC. 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

All certificates or copies so returned shall be recorded by the clerk or registrar receiving the same, and every person neglecting to make the record and returns required by this section shall forfeit for each neglect not less than twenty nor more than one hundred dollars.
