NORTH ADAMS DIRECTORY.

To Find a Name

You must know how to spell it. It is not uncom- mon for members of the same family to spell their names differently, preserving the pronunciation. A few instances as follows : Brown, Browne; Cain, Kain, Kane; Cavanaugh, Cavanough, Kavanough ; Chase, Chace; Cohen, Cohn, Kohn; Kelley, Kelly ; Kenney, Kenny, Kinney; Miller, Mueller, Miehler; Paine, Payne; Read, Reed, Reid; Rider, Ryder; Hines, Hynes ; and especially the French names.

Directories are arranged and printed in exact alphabetical order. If the examiner knows the way the name is spelled and follows out the order of the alphabet, he will save time and vexation of spirit.

WARNING

The Public is cautioned against the fradulent Directory concerns that are now operating throughout the country, collecting on forged or raised orders for advertising and headings in "Directories," "Trade Registers," "Buyers' Guides" or "Commercial Lists" that have no circulation whatever beyond the copies car- ried by canvassers or collectors. Pay no money in advance and give orders only to well-known publishers.
