COST OF THE SCHOOLS


The total amount spent for the maintenance of the schools of Somerville for the school year ending June 30. 1941, is $1.526,809.33.


This includes the sums spent for care of school buildings, including janitors' services, fuel, light, and school telephones ; the amount paid for salaries of officers. and the amount spent for school supplies ; and the sum paid for salaries of teachers.


The expenditures for care for school buildings is wholly in charge of the City Government.

An examination of these tables shows that we have paid $4.24 more for the instruction of each pupil in the High School than in 1940, and 18 cents less per pupil for supplies.


The elementary schools have cost 38 cents more per pupil for instruction, and 5 cents more for supplies.


The amount spent for the school year 1941 was $13.48, or 5 cents less than was spent in 1940. The amount yielded for each child in the average membership of the schools for 1941, not including the vocational schools, was $88.10.
