BOARD OF ENGINEERS
To the Citizens of Attleborough :
The Board of Engineers of the Fire Department herewith submit their annual report of the year ending December 31, 1900:
FORCE OF THE DEPARTMENT.
The department consists of a Chief Engineer, two Assistant Engineers, three permanent drivers, twenty- four regular and six substitute hosemen, twelve regular and four substitute hook and ladder men, and five fire police, all located in the centre of the town.
A volunteer hose company at Farmers village, a vol- unteer double company (hook and ladder and hose) at South Attleboro, and a volunteer hose company at He -- bronville.

APPARATUS.
The apparatus of the department consists of one two- horse hook and ladder truck with 300 feet of ladders and fully equipped with all other necessary tools; one one- horse carriage; one two-horse hose wagon; one supply wagon ; 5,000 feet of hose in good condition; 500 feet in poor condition, located in center of the town.

HORSES.
The department has five horses, three at the Union Street, and two at South Main Street house.
HARNESSES.
Two set of double harness, one used on Hose I and one on Hock & Ladder Truck 2; single harnesses, one on Hose 2 and one on Hose 3 at Farmers, all in good con- dition. ·
FIRE ALARM.
The Gamewell Fire Alarm System is in use in good working order. It consists of the following apparatus : One steam gong at pumping station, South Attleboro; three bells, one on South Main street, one near Pleasant place, one on Hose 4's house, South Attleboro; one indicator at Hose I, one at Hose 2, one at Hose 5 at Hebronville ; 34 fire alarm boxes owned by town; one private box owned by the Interstate R. R. Co .; about 37 miles of wire and all the necessary tools for keeping the same in repair.
HOUSES.
The department houses are located as follows : South Main street house occupied by Hose Co. I.
Union Street house occupied by Hook and Ladder Co. I and Hose Co. 2.

House at South Attleboro occupied by Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2 and Hose Co. 4.
House at Hebronville occupied by Hose Co. 5.
PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS.
During the past year we have added four new Fire Alarm boxes, laid new floors in South Main street house, put in two new stalls and sheathed the apparatus room overhead, purchased a new supply wagon, one additional horse for Hose 1; one set of double harnesses; 1,000 feet of hose.

Jan. 24. Fire in house of James Luther, Dean street, at II:30 a. m. Gas jet setting curtain on fire; no alarm; fire put out by family. Loss, 30.00.
Jan. 28. Alarm from box 34 at 1:05 p. m., grass fire near Hodges street. Recall at 1 :30.
Feb. I. Alarm from box 34 at 3:40 p. m., fire in resi- dence of Dr. Solomon, 68 North Main street. Recall at 5:15 p. m. Loss on build- ing, $3,000 00; loss on furniture, $1,500 00. Fire in house of W. H. Goff, corner Pine and Dunham streets. No alarm. Damage, $10.
