SPRINGFIELD TRADE AND INDUSTRY.


Under this head, we propose to do what we have long designed to do-viz : to present, in a somewhat detailed form, an account of the different establish- ments of trade and manufactures in Springfield. If, after finishing the work laid out here, we find our- selves in the possession of leisure sufficient for the purpose, we shall do the same service for Chicopee, Holyoke, South Hadley, Northampton, Greenfield, and the different manufacturing and business towns in the valley, North of us, and among the hills East and West. The manufactures of the Connecticut valley, and those established upon the tributaries of the river, reaching far back among the hills on either side, and the amount of business growing out of them, are mat- ters of increasing interest and importance, and, as such, cannot fail to interest all living in this region. An invitation, long since extended to us, and accepted, determines us to commence with the new establish- ment of
