CITY OF BEVERLY
STREET AND HOUSE DIRECTORY
Giving the location of the streets, places, parks, squares, etc., and showing what other streets and places run from them or across them, with the point at which they inter- sect. The system adopted for numbering the streets of the city is that a person starting at the beginning of any street, and following along with the numbers, every even number will be on the left hand and every odd number on the right hand, with the names of heads of families and persons in business, in the order of location.
The dash (-) is used to show where connecting streets cross or intersect, when such intersections or crossings have no numbers, and also to designate houses without numbers, railroad crossings, bridges and public buildings.
When there is more than one family in a house, the down-stair name is given first.
