PREFACE
The sixth volume of the City Directory, though it does not show a large increase in population, has been compiled with greater care, if possible, than in previous years. A large num- ber of corrections in address, occupation, etc., and the added and erased names bring the total number of changes up to nearly 70 per cent. since 1907. This again demonstrates the need of the yearly canvass of the city, which has trebled the value and number of users of the Directory since 1903. It has been found after one year of use that the insertion of married women's names is of considerable value and a more nearly complete list is given in this issue.
The map, which has been carefully corrected again this year, shows all new streets and other changes up to date. The special information in regard to the location of the summer residences is a valuable feature of this Directory and can be found in no other. Both key and map show the latest correc- tions in the district comprising Beverly, Manchester, Hamilton and Wenham.
Our thanks are tendered to all who have furnished information, and especially to our numerous subscribers and advertising patrons.
