PREFACE

The Nineteenth volume of the City Directory is issued to our subscribers with a new, large scale map of the city, showing all new streets and in clearly readable size. The net additions to the body of the Directory give 1,456 lines more than last year. An unusually large percentage of changes has been made from the matter of last year's book, and every available means has been used to secure accuracy in the Directory. We have, as usual, made one thorough and a secondary canvass of the whole city, and present herewith a Directory which is as nearly accurate as we believe it possible to issue. The married women's names are inserted by the special method we have adopted, and there are now over six thousand of these.

Our thanks are tendered to all who have furnished information, and es- pecially to our many subscribers and advertising patrons.

Crowley & Lunt, June 1, 1921.

Beverly's Population

The number of names in the directory of 1921, excluding all matter im- material to the census, is approximately 19,300; number of children in the public schools in 1920, 4,328; estimated number of children under school age who are not included in above, 2,600. This gives a total of 26,228, in addition to which we have the constant floating population of above 1,000, giving, as an estimate, a total of 27,228.
