CROWLEY & LUNT'S City of Beverly STREET AND HOUSE DIRECTORY

1927

Giving the location of the streets, places, parks, etc., and showing what other streets and places run from them or across them, with the point at which they in- tersect. The system adopted for numbering the streets of the city is that a per- son starting at the beginning of any street and following along with the numbers every even number will be on the left and every odd number on the right t, with the names of heads of families and persons in business in the order of location.

The cipher (0) is used to designate houses or buildings without numbers. The dash (-) is used to show where connecting streets and avenues cross or intersect, when such intersections or crossings have no number, and also to designate rail- road crossings bridges, parks, etc.

When there is more than one family in a house, the down-stairs name is usually given first.

Abbreviations: Ave., avenue; byd., beyond; groc., groceries; jet., junction ; n., near; opp., opposite; r., rear; rep., repairing; smr., summer; s. r., summer resident ; var., variety ; etc., etc. Houses having erroneous numbers are sometimes enclosed in parenthesis (-).

*Indicates telephones.

fExceptions to this rule occur occasionally.
