BEVERLY STREET AND HOUSE DIRECTORY, 1956 175
CROWLEY & LUNT'S
City of Beverly Street and House Directory 1956
This guide gives the location of the streets, places, parks, squares. etc., and shows what other streets and places run from them or across them, with the point at which they intersect. The system adopted for numbering the streets of the city is that a person starting at the beginning of any street and following along with the numbers, every even number will be on the left and every odd number on the right hand, with the names of families and persons in business in the order of location.
The cipher (0) is used to designate houses or buildings without numbers, the dash (-) is used to show where connecting streets and avenues cross or intersect, when such intersections or crossings have no numbers, and also to designate railroad crossings and bridges, parks, etc.
When there is more than one family in a house, the down stairs name is usually given first.
Abbreviations: Ave., avenue; byd., beyond; groc., groceries; jct., junction; n., near; opp., opposite; prov., provisions; rd., road; r., rear; rep., repairing. smr., summer; s. r., summer resident; var., variety; etc., etc. Houses having erroneous numbers are sometimes enclosed in parenthesis (-).
* Indicates telephones.
Indicates two house calls, mail and tel. without contact.
O Property reported taxed to member of family. Accuracy not guaranteed by the publisher.
Note: All house numbers on Hale Street beyond Beverly Post Office Delivery (i. e. beyond 300) and all Pride's Crossing and Beverly Farms numbers are City Directory allocations made by the Directory company and published under copyright. Publication of these numbers as an address list or a street directory by any book, pamphlet or other issue is prohibited by copyright law and will be prosecuted.
