INSTRUCTIONS TO KEY HOLDERS.

Alarms to be given from the box neare-t the location of the fire.

Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance, unless assis- tance is called for.

To give an alarm, open the door, pull the hook to the bottom of the slot once, and let go. Each box contains a small bell which, if heard before you pull, indicates that an alarm has been previously given, and by listening at the box, you will learn the number of the box from which the alarm was given, but in no case will you pull the hook while the alarm is strik- ing. After giving the alarm, re- main at the box. so as to direct the firemen to the fire. Be sure tluut you lock the box before leav- ing it.

Citizens are requested to inform themselves where keys to the sig- nal boxes are kept, signs suitably inscribed being placed over each box giving the requisite infor- mation.

First alarm will be given by striking two or more rounds of box number.

Second alarm will be given by repeating the first alarm.

Third aların will be given by striking three blows twice on gongs, bells and whistles.

General alarm will be given by striking three blows three times on gongs, bells and whistles.
