On November 11, 1911, in Glens Falls, New York, Arthur Wellington Pinkham married Ruth Marie, daughter of Elbert W. and Adele (Parker) Griffith. Both were natives of New York State and both are de- ceased, Mrs. Griffith dying in Glens Falls,

and Mr. Griffith in Lynn. Elbert W. Grif- fith was for three decades superintendent of the Glens Falls school system prior to his retirement. Mrs. Pinkham was born in Nor- wich, New York, and is a graduate of Glens Falls High School, and Smith College, from which she received the Bachelor of Arts de- gree in 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Pinkham are the parents of three sons : I. Charles Hacker Pinkham, 2nd, born April 1, 1916, attending Brown University. 2. Richard Griffith Pink- ham, born October 6, 1920, attending East- ern Junior High School, Lynn. 3. Arthur W. Pinkham, Jr., born May 10, 1927.
LEON MOLT DELANO-American- born son of Italian parents, Leon Molt Del- ano has attained an honored and influential position in the professional and civic life of Nahant, by careful academic preparation, thorough legal training, application and in- dustry. Mr. Delano was born at Albany, New York, September 21, 1898, a son of Thomas and Agnes Delano. His parents emigrated to America and eventually settled at Nahant, where, for a time, Thomas was employed in the shoe industry, but left this vocation to become a lobster fisherman. Thomas Delano is now retired and he and his wife reside at Nahant. They are mem- bers of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catho- lic Church.
Leon Molt Delano attended St. Mary's Parochial School, at Lynn, and Lynn and Nahant grammar schools; was graduated from Nahant High School in 1914, and took post-graduate studies at Lynn English High School for one year. He then matriculated at Northeastern College Law School, from which he was graduated in 1919 with his law degree. His studies at Northeastern Col- lege Law School were interrupted by his enlistment in the United States Army in July, 1918, at Swampscott. He was a mem-
ber of Company A, 36th Machine Gun Bat- talion, stationed at Camp Devens, and in- structor in gas defense training. His com- pany embarked for France, but was ordered back on the signing of the Armistice, and he was honorably discharged at Camp Devens, with the rank of corporal.
In 1920 he was admitted to the bar, and was associated in practice with Frederick E. Shaw, with offices in the Grossman Build- ing. Two years later he formed a partner- ship with Thomas A. Landegan, under the name Landegan and Delano, with offices in the Security Trust Building. This partner- ship continued until 1931, when Mr. Delano moved his office to the Lynford Building, where he has since practiced alone. He is engaged in general law practice and has the confidence and esteem of a large clientele.
His many professional and personal qual- ities have been much in demand in civic affairs and he has served as secretary of the board of selectmen since 1922 ; is a member of the Nahant Board of Health; Nahant Water Commission ; Department of Public Welfare; director of Old Age Assistance ; and was secretary of the Town of Nahant Republican Committee until 1932. He is also a member of the Lynn Chamber of Com- merce ; Mortimer G. Robbins Post, No. 215, American Legion, of Nahant; is Venerable of United Lodges of Sons of Italy in Amer- ica ; Nahant Golf Club; Valladolid Council, Knights of Columbus. His professional memberships are with the Lynn Bar Asso- ciation, and the Essex County Bar Associa- tion.
Mr. Delano married, November 12, 1927, Jane Claire Harney, of Lynn, a daughter of Michael J. and Jennie A. (Daley) Harney. Mr. Harney was a native and shoe manu- facturer of Lynn, where Mrs. Harney, who was born at Malden, is residing. Mrs. Leon Molt Delano was educated at Lynn, being a

graduate of English High School. Mr. and Mrs. Delano are members of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church. They are the parents of a son, Leon Molt, Jr., born September 23, 1933.
LOUIS F. O'KEEFE-Attorney-at-law and city solicitor of Peabody, Louis F. O'Keefe has won distinction in his profession for his attainment in legal learning and in civic life as a capable public officer. Born at Lowell, June 12, 1895, Mr. O'Keefe is a son of Patrick O'Keefe, born at Northfield, and of Margaret J. (Meyers) O'Keefe, a native of Groton. Patrick O'Keefe, now retired, was engaged in the leather business in Salem for many years and served in the city council.
Mr. O'Keefe has had the advantage of a thorough cultural and professional education, having attended public school, high school, and Boston University, from which he was graduated in 1916 with the degree of LL. B. The following year he began to practice in Boston, first with George Stanley Harvey, who was then assistant district attorney of Middlesex County. Several years later, Mr. O'Keefe became a partner in the firm of Harvey, Campbell, McLean and O'Keefe. Although his office was in Boston he resided in Peabody, of which city, in 1929, he was appointed city solicitor by the Honorable J. Leo Sullivan and has filled this office until the present time. He has given to this responsi- bility his fine legal talents and aggressiveness in performance of his duties, and is one of the most popular public officials in Essex County. Mr. O'Keefe has also served as a member of the city council of Peabody during the years 1923 and 1924. He moved his law interests from Boston to Peabody in Janu- ary, 1932, and established offices at No. 10 Main Street.
During the World War Mr. O'Keefe en- listed in the United States Navy, was as- signed to the U. S. S. "Pittsburgh," engaged
in patrol duty in South American waters, and served fourteen months. He is a mem- ber of the American Legion, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and the Knights of Columbus, in which organization he has for ten years held the office of Advo- cate. His favorite diversion is to be out of doors, finding in nature recreation and inspi- ration.
Mr. O'Keefe married, on June 30, 1934, Helen C. Lewis, of Arlington, Massachusetts, and their residence is No. 87 Garden Street, Peabody.
JAMES NICHOLAS CONNOLLY, ac- countant and cooriginator of an interest- figuring system used by over one hundred banks in New England, is one of the out- standing business men of Lynn, where his activities in religious, fraternal and civic affairs are an important influence. Mr. Con- nolly was born in Lynn May 28, 1896, son of James and Mary (O'Connell) Connolly. James Connolly, born in Boston and died February 14, 1929, was a leather worker in that city, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and a Republican. Mrs. Mary Con- nolly, born in Newport, Rhode Island, died June 27, 1934. She was the daughter of William and Anne O'Connell, both born in Newport, Rhode Island, and died in Lynn, where William O'Connell, a Civil War vet- eran, was associated with the firm of Titus and Buckley, merchants.
Mr. Connolly, after being graduated from St. Joseph's Grammar School in 19II, at- tended Lynn Classical High School two years and completed his preparatory work at Boston College High School, from which he was graduated in 1915. He then entered the employ of the American Express Com- pany in Lynn as assistant cashier, remain- ing in that position until April, 1917, when he enlisted in the United States Army, at Salem. Field Artillery, 26th Division, and after two weeks training at Boxford, was sent to France. Completing his training in both England and France, Mr. Connolly entered the front lines in January, 1918, and engaged in all the major battles. Upon the conclu- sion of the World War, he was honorably discharged, having served twenty-three months, and is now a member of the Offi- cers Reserve Corps, in the department of finance.
He again became associated with the American Express Company, remaining un- til 1924. During this time he studied at Burdett Business College in Boston and at Boston University, receiving his degree in business and accounting from that institu- tion. His studies in accounting had led him to the particular branch of bank audit- ing and interest figuring, and as a specialist in these subjects he opened an office in Lynn. Since his graduation from Boston University in 1924 and his establishment as an accountant in Lynn in the same year, Mr. Connolly has attained prominence as an authority of bank accounting and has achieved a considerable measure of success. His practice now requires the assistance of forty employees. With the late Gaillard Oliver, he originated a system of interest- figuring that is used by scores of financial institutions throughout New England, and, if not the only one, he is one of the few accountants in the United States that is en- gaged in this particular kind of practice.
Mr. Connolly is the founder and a direc- tor of the New England Banking and Cal- culating School of Lynn, which offers indi- vidual instruction in the operation of calcu- lating and posting machines as applied to banking and commercial business, and class instruction in banking procedure. This school has proved of large usefulness in supplying banks and financial institutions
with expert and qualified workers and has the recommendation of many commercial houses.
Aside from his extensive business inter- ests, Mr. Connolly is active in many organi- zations. He is a Democrat, a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Lynn, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. His activities also include the Lynn Chamber of Commerce, the Ki- wanis Club of Lynn, the American Legion, the Y. D. Club of Lynn, the Boston City Club, the Colonial Golf Club of Lynn, the National Association of Cost Accountants, and he is a commander of the Disabled Vet- erans Association of the World War. Due to his experience and standing in account- ancy, he frequently addresses banking con- ventions on his specialty. His favorite di- version is fishing.
On August 10, 1928, Mr. Connolly mar- ried, in Lynn, Nathalie West, a native of Worcester, and the daughter of William West (deceased). Mrs. Connolly is a grad- uate of the Worcester High School and a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Lynn. The father, by a previous marriage, of June Marie, born June 21, 1922, Mr. and Mrs. Connolly are the parents of a son, James N., Jr., born February 10, 1930.
HERBERT W. SIMMONS-As a mem- ber of the law firm of Parsons, Wadleigh and Crowley, Herbert W. Simmons has served faithfully and effectively the com- munity of Lynn. Here he has affiliated him- self with some of the city's outstanding or- ganizations and enterprises, and has accom- plished much for the general good.
Mr. Simmons was born at Beverly, Jan- uary 21, 1893, son of Benjamin P. and Ethel H. (Wallace) Simmons. His father, born in Salem, died in Beverly in February, 1910, at the age of forty-two years, after a long

and busy career as a restaurant proprietor. He was a Republican in his political views and a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church. His wife, born in 1870 in Beverly, died in Lynn, March, 1925. On the paternal side of the house, the grandfather of Her- bert W. Simmons was John Simmons, a na- tive of Essex County, who died in Salem, where he was a leather manufacturer. The maternal grandparents were Herbert H. and Mary (Rutledge) Wallace. Herbert H. Wallace, born in Townsend, died in Lynn, was a shoemaker in Beverly. His wife, a native of England, died in Beverly.
In Beverly, his birthplace, Herbert W. Simmons received his early education and was graduated from high school in 19II. In 1918 he was graduated from the School of Finance of Northeastern University, Bos- ton. A year later he passed the certified public accountant's examinations, and in 1922 passed the bar examinations. Since 1917 he has been associated with Patrick Crowley, certified public accountant and lawyer, of Lynn. When Mr. Crowley be- came a member of the law firm of Parsons, Wadleigh and Crowley, Mr. Simmons also became associated with the new firm, and has continued with it to the present time (1935).
Along with his other activities, Mr. Sim- mons has taken a lively interest in the gen- eral affairs of his profession. He is a mem- ber of the Lynn Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association. Politically he supports the candidates and measures of his choice, following a consistently non- partisan policy. His church is St. Stephen's Protestant Episcopal. He is affiliated with Golden Fleece Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; also Sutton Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; and Lynn Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is a member of the Beverly Masonic Club, and a leader
in its affairs. His favorite diversions are those of an outdoor nature, and he especi- ally enjoys the time that he spends at his own camp at Hamilton, where he indulges extensively in fishing, hunting and other recreations of a healthful nature. Mr. Sim- mons has proved himself to be a citizen who is capable of handling a problem of the moment.
Herbert W. Simmons married May 15, 1930, in Lynn, Hazel I. Durgin, a native of Haverhill, daughter of Elmer and Kathrine Durgin. Her father was a traveling sales- man and is now deceased. Mrs. Kathrine Durgin resides with Mrs. Simmons, in Lynn. Mrs. Simmons is a graduate of Lynn Eng- lish High School and of Burdett Business College, Lynn. She was a stenographer for Parsons, Wadleigh and Crowley prior to her marriage, and at the present time is, like her husband, a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons have a son, Herbert W., Jr., who was born September 28, 1932. The Simmons family residence is No. 2 Chestnut Street, Lynn, and Mr. Simmons has his office at No. 14 Central Avenue, this city.
RALPH LEONARD DENNIS-A well- known merchant of Lynn, and active in many community affairs, is Ralph Leonard Dennis. He is a grandson of Captain Leon- ard Dennis, who was one of five brothers that came from England to the United States, where they all settled in New Eng- land. Captain Leonard Dennis served in the Federal Army during the Civil War, was promoted to the rank of captain and after being honorably discharged he became the proprietor of a hotel in Gainesville, Florida, at which place he died and is buried. Captain Dennis married a Miss Woodbury, who was a native of Hamilton, Massachusetts, and they were the parents

of Leon L. Dennis, who was born in Bev- erly, and is now residing in Swampscott. He is president of the G. R. Willis Com- pany, Printers, of Boston. He is a member of the Baptist Church, and in politics a Republican. Leon L. Dennis married Ber- tha C. Shermell, who was born in Lynn, and they are the parents of Ralph Leonard Dennis.
Ralph L. Dennis was born in Swamp- scott on November 21, 1906. He received his preliminary education in the public schools and was graduated from Swamp- scott High School in 1924. He then entered Northeastern University, from which he was graduated in 1928 with the degree of Mechanical Engineer. Possessing natural business ability and being an engineer, Mr. Dennis established himself in the oil burner distribution business, locating at No. 7 Wil- low Street, Lynn, under the firm name of the Dennis Sales Agency, of which he is treasurer and general manager. His selec- tion of a business career has been well proved, as the enterprise has grown to the point where they had to have larger quar- ters, and the offices and sales rooms are now situated at No. 67 Blake Street, with a branch office located at Nos. III-115 Broad- way, Boston. The firm conducts both a wholesale and retail business in oil burners and supplies, representing the Nation's leading manufacturers. The remarkable de- velopment of this concern has been under the direction of Mr. Dennis, whose ability has won him a respected position among business circles.
Mr. Dennis is prominent in social and club affairs, and is a member of the Colonial Golf Club. In politics he is non-partisan. He is a member of Wayfarers Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, of Swampscott; the Kiwanis Club, of Lynn; and is clerk of the Lynn Finance Committee. He is interested
in athletics of all kinds, but more especially of golf.
Mr. Dennis married, on October 26, 1928, Ethel Leonora Howard, who was born in Lynn, and is the daughter of Leon and Anna (Cushing) Howard, of Swampscott. Mr. Howard is associated with the Brown- Wales Company, of Boston. Mrs. Dennis is a graduate of the Swampscott public schools and of the Essex Agricultural School of Danvers. She and Mr. Dennis are members of the Washington Square Baptist Church of Lynn. Mr. and Mrs. Den- nis have two children : I. Barbara Ann, born on March 16, 1930. 2. Howard Arnold, born on January 6, 1932.
LAWRENCE WATERS JENKINS, whose long association with the Peabody Museum at Salem has won him a wide reputation for scholarship and made him a well-known figure in Essex County, was born at Salem on December 23, 1872. He is a son of Charles Trinder and Lucy Dane (Weston) Jenkins. His father was a part- ner in the firm of Smith and Jenkins, litho- graphers of New York, and from 1850 to 1869 he was engaged in mining enterprises in California.
Mr. Jenkins was educated at Noble's School in Boston and at Harvard College, from which he was graduated in 1896 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He began his active career with the Crows Nest Min- ing Company at Melrose, Nova Scotia, a gold mining company of which he was as- sistant superintendent from 1897 to 1899. In 1901, however, he became curator of ethnology at Peabody Museum, a subject in which he had been interested for some years, and so entered upon the connection which he has since continued without inter- ruption. In 1914 he also became assistant director in charge of the museum and in

1925, curator of the Marine Room, holding all three offices until the present time. In addition he has been vice-president for a number of years of the Essex Institute. Mr. Jenkins is a Fellow of the American Asso- ciation for the Advancement of Science; a member of the American Antiquarian So- ciety, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the American Anthropological Association, the American Association of Museums; the Society for Nautical Research, of London ; the Sons of the American Revolution, the Armor and Arms Club of New York, the National Guard Association, the Army and Navy Club of Boston, and is clerk of the Salem Marine Society. He was active for more than thirty years in the Massachusetts military, serving with the Ist Corps Cadets of Boston as private and corporal from 1892 to 1901 ; with the 2d Corps Cadets at Salem from 1902 to 1915, during which time he rose to the rank of major and later lieuten- ant colonel of the 15th Infantry, Massachu- setts State Guard, from 1917 to 1920. Since the latter year he has been on the National Guard retired list with the rank of lieuten- ant colonel. Mr. Jenkins is a member of the Unitarian Church.
He married, at Salem, September 10, 1901, Arvilla Bray, daughter of Guilford Parker and Dorothy (Raymond) Bray, and they are the parents of three children: Stephen Waters, born November 22, 1902; Dorothy, born January 20, 1906; and Benjamin Gil- bert, born October 29, 1907.
JIBRAN Y. SKEIRIK, M. D .- There is romance in the career of Dr. Jibran Y. Skeirik, who fourteen years ago came to this country from his native Syria and through his own efforts gained a medical education that later was to establish him as one of the foremost physicians and surgeons of the city of Lawrence.
Dr. Skeirik was born in Syria, August 15, 1894, and received a general education in the American schools which were established in that country. He graduated from the Leb- anon High School in Syria and, following the completion of his studies there, entered the American College of Beirut, spending a year at this institution. During the World War he served with the American Red Cross and the Near East Relief, working as super- visor in the southern part of Lebanon at the end of the conflict.
In December, 1920, he came to the United States and settled in Lawrence, where he secured a position as a clerk and remained until September, 1923, when he found it pos- sible to enter the College of Liberal Arts of Boston University. He took his pre-medical work at this institution and in 1925 went to the Harvard Medical College, where he was graduated in 1929 with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. Until 1932 he served his interne- ship at the Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City and during this period became resident surgeon for the hospital. In this same year he came to Lawrence and estab- lished himself in a practice which has be- come substantial and lucrative. In his pro- fessional affiliations he is a member of the Lawrence Medical Society, the Massachu- setts Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He is a member of the Grecian Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons.
On January 28, 1929, Dr. Skeirik married Malvina M. Corey, of Lawrence, and they are the parents of one daughter, Joyce Louise, born July 14, 1933.
JAMES ARTHUR DUMAS, M. D .-- A native and for the most of his life a resi- dent of Lynn, Massachusetts, James Arthur Dumas, M. D., was born April 24, 1900. He is the son of Timothy J. and Jane I.

(Gunn) Dumas, and the grandson of John and Mary Dumas, of Irish birth who came to the United States in their youth, settling in Lynn. Timothy J. Dumas, born in New York City, February 29, 1868, is a well- known merchant of Lynn, who married Jane I. Gunn, who was born in this city on April 3, 1870.
Dr. Dumas was graduated from the Lynn Classical High School in 1918, and after two years pre-medical study in Tufts Col- lege, entered Tufts Medical College from which he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine cum laude, with the class of 1924. He completed his medical studies and be- came an interne in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Brighton, and served for eighteen months. ยท Further experience for a successful practice was obtained as assistant physician for six months at the McLean Hospital, Waverly ; and at Boston City Hospital which is oper- ated for patients with mental diseases, and after twenty-one months in this position, became resident surgeon at the East Boston Hospital for eight months. It was not until 1928 that Dr. Dumas established himself in private practice in Lynn, after more than usual preparation for his exacting profes- sion. He is on the staff of the Lynn Hos- pital.
Dr. Dumas has taken a lively interest in a variety of phases of the life of Lynn. He was appointed commissioner of health for the municipality in 1930, by Mayor Man- ning, resigning the next year because of ill health. In 1933 he was again appointed to this office, also by Mayor Manning, and has continued in this service. Fraternally Dr. Dumas is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, and the George Washington Lodge, Order of Foresters, and is a member of St. Pius Men's Club, the Cedar Glen Golf Club, and St. Pius Church. Along pro- fessional lines he is a member of the Lynn Medical Society, the Massachusetts State
Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Dumas was only eighteen years of age when the United States entered the World War, but spent several months in military training. In high school he was a member of the track and baseball teams and laid the foundations of athletic ability that stood him in good stead in college. His favorite game is golf and he is a member of the Happy Valley and the Cedar Glen Golf clubs, where his playing has been of such calibre as to gain for him championships. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Phi Chi Fraternity, which he joined at college.
On October 14, 1926, James Arthur Du- mas, M. D., married Bertha M. Searles, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, daughter of Ernest O. Searles of Eliot, Maine. Mrs. Dumas is a graduate of Portsmouth High School, New Hampshire, and she is a mem- ber of St. Pius Church of Lynn. Dr. and Mrs. Dumas are the parents of three chil- dren : James A., Paul S., and Patricia Ann Dumas.
ANDREW P. P. DUNK-Resident man- ager at Salem for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of New York, Andrew P. P. Dunk has been engaged in this line of endeavor since before he left Scotland, and has been identified with the Metropolitan Life for twenty-five years.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, April 25, 1880, Mr. Dunk is a son of George Arthur and Elizabeth (Phillips) Dunk, the former a na- tive of England and the latter of Scotland. He received his education in the public schools of Glasgow and then followed twelve years as a biscuit salesman in Glasgow. He next formed a connection with the Pruden- tial Assurance Company at Holborn Bars, London, England, with which firm he re- mained a year.
