Leaving the Harvard School of Business Admini- stration in 1922, Mr. Hibbard became a salesman for the Rising Paper Company of Housatonic, Massa- chusetts, with which he remained associated until 1929. In the latter year he joined Stevenson and Company, Inc., general insurance agents with offices at 34 North Street in Pittsfield. Of this firm he be- came assistant treasurer, and this office he continues to fill to the present time. He is also a partner in the firm of Stevenson and Company, real estate deal- ers. His business interests have extended to the banking field, and he is a member of the board of directors of the Berkshire Trust Company.
During World War I Mr. Hibbard joined the United States Army, and became a second lieu- tenant in the infantry. The one public office in which he has served is that of clerk of the zoning board of appeals at Lenox, Massachusetts. He has been active in business councils and civic affairs as a member of the Pittsfield Kiwanis Club, of which he was president in 1946. He has long been interested in the Pittsfield Young Men's Christian Association, and is a member of the board of directors of that organization. He serves also as vice president of the Pittsfield Community Fund. He belongs to the Country Club of Pittsfield, and since his college days he has been affiliated with the Kappa Alpha Greek letter fraternity, and with the Gargoyle, the honorary senior society of Williams College.
On June 27, 1925, Robert Sargent Hibbard was married to Eleanor B. Stevens, the ceremony taking place at Greenwich, Connecticut. Mrs. Hibbard is a daughter of H. Frederick and Ida H. Stevens. Of this marriage there is one child, a daughter, Ann Stevens Hibbard, who was born on October 17, 1928.
CLARENCE RICHARD BROOKS, attorney at law, has been active in private practice and in the pub- lic affairs of Springfield throughout his career. He is a member of the law firm of Brooks and Wallace, and has served on the Springfield City Council.
Mr. Brooks is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He was born April 17, 1901, son of Richard Ernest and Ellen May (Walters) Brooks. His father is still living, although retired from business. The family lived in various cities during Mr. Brooks' youth, and he com- pleted hs secondary education in Tacoma, Washington, graduating from Lincoln High School there. He then came east and entered Harvard College; and after completing his academic studies he entered Harvard Law School, where he received his professional training.
Mr. Brooks remained in Massachusetts, to take up the practice of law in Springfield. He was first a mem- ber of the firm of Small and Brooks, but since 1942 has been a partner in the firm of Brooks and Wallace. He has acquitted himself well in public office, having served on the city council of Springfield from 1934 to 1938. Mr. Brooks is also a director of the First Na- tional Bank of Medford, Massachusetts.
Active in the club life of his community, Mr. Brooks is a member of the Colony Club of Springfield, the Longmeadow Country Club in the community where he makes his home, and of the Harvard Club of Con- necticut Valley and the University Club. He and his family attend Trinity Methodist Church.
At West Medford, Massachusetts, May 14, 1927, Clarence R. Brooks married Virginia May Jerguson. daughter of Philip Arnold and Cora Belle (Fletcher) Jerguson. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks have become the par- ents of four children: 1. Philip Alanson, born August 28, 1931. 2. Alan Fletcher, born June 23, 1936. 3. Ellen Walters, born June 23, 1936. 4. Richard Clarence, born December 4, 1943. The family resides at 133 Colony Road, Longmeadow, and Mr. Brooks' office is at 1387 Main Street, Springfield.
LLOYD ELLISON-After several years' success in the insurance business, Lloyd Ellison in 1943 launched in Springfield the Ellison System, Inc., as consultant to industrial organizations in pensions, profit-sharing and other employee-benefit plans. He entered the life insurance field in 1926 after a notable record in the furniture business.
Mr. Ellison was born in New York City on March II, I901, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke H. Ellison. His father, born August 16, 1851, was a publisher. He died on October 25, 1914. Lloyd Ellison had received a general education under private instructors when his father died, whereupon, at the age of thirteen, he joined his uncle, B. W. McDowell, in the furniture business at South Deerfield, Massachusetts. In 1919, after five years' experience in this business, he took over full management at the age of eighteen.
Meanwhile, he had been making a study of the in- surance business and had become district representa- tive for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company for Franklin and Hampden counties. In 1926 he gave up the furniture business to devote his entire time to the insurance field. After a six-month period of special training, he returned to Springfield, and in 1930 he was appointed supervisor of the Frank M. Kinney agency. He continued with that firm until 1932, when he founded the Ellison System to take over the management of life insurance policies and annuities, to handle claims for the insured and to per- form other services for the policy holder. Out of this organization grew his present business, which is con- ducted from offices in the National Bank Building.
In addition to his wide business acquaintances, Mr. Ellison has made hosts of friends through his social and civic activities. He is a member of the Masonic order and worships at the Community Church of Longmeadow. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
On July 26, 1924, Mr. Ellison married Sabina E. Neil of Hadley, and they are the parents of two children: I. Frances E., born November 12, 1926. 2. William Bruce, born April 9, 1931.
