MERRIMAC TOWN REPORT

We have a balance of $146.90 which we expected to use for cutting cordwood but we were unable to get any- one to cut the wood, even at the high prevailing price which is being paid so we are returning the balance to the Town with the expectation that prices and manpower will be in better condition another year.

Respectfully submitted,

JAMES T. COLGAN, RUSSELL B. KELLY, SAMUEL C. DOUST, Town Forest Committee.

MERRIMAC TOWN REPORT

REPORT OF THE PLAYGROUND COMMISSION For the Year 1945

The Playground Commission has held several meetings during the year and has concentrated their efforts toward making a usable baseball diamond where the backstop now stands.

An engineer was hired to make a study and present plans and specifications for this work. At the present time the land is covered with water and drainage is badly need- ed; it will be necessary to drain, lay out and grade and loam the area before it can be used as a baseball diamond. The article for $3,500 inserted in the warrant for 1946 is for this purpose.

The playground equipment already owned by the Town was set up and available for use throughout the sum- mer and the field was mowed for use as a temporary base- ball diamond several times.

We feel that the engineering performed on the base- ball diamond, even though it may not be used immediately, will be valuable when the Town sees fit to provide their young people with a place to play baseball worthy of a town that is alive and prospering.
