In submitting our report for the year ending Jan. 20, 1910, we desire to call the attention of the citizens to the fol- lowing important matters : At an adjourned town meeting March 9, 1909, $400 was appropriated for unpaid bills and March 15, 1909, $392.30 of that amount was expended. The amount appropriated was not sufficient to meet the indebted- ness and we were obliged to expend $923.36 (of the appropria- tion of $1900 for incidentals, made at the March meeting,)

84

for bills contracted previous to March 1, 1909. This lessened' the amount of available money to be used for incidentals and we have endeavored to be as economical as possible.

At an adjourned town meeting Nov. 9, 1909, $2500 was appropriated from unexpended balances in the hands of the town treasurer for use of the fire department. This action was deemed necessary as both steam fire engine boilers in the department were condemned and new ones were installed at an expense of $2035, $1768.25 of which has been paid.

A new steam fire whistle was installed at an expense of $350. We have reported all unpaid bills against the depart- ment to date, and recommend that $511.72 be appropriated for the purpose, as other appropriations cannot be used for any other purpose than that for which they are voted, the incidental fund must serve in emergency for unforeseen ex- penses and we therefore recommend $2100 for this purpose.

We would also remind the citizens that the hook and ladder truck is in a very poor condition, and will have to be replaced by a new one in the near future.

The improvements at the farm this year consisted of a new carpenter shop and store room, new windows on roof of house, large outhouse for inmates, and building for tubercular patients made necessary by demand of state inspectors, cost- ing about $850.00.

The coming year the farm buildings need painting, the old
