WARRANT FOR THE SPECIAL TOWN MEETING, JULY 17, 1929
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS
Worcester, ss.
To either Constable in the Town of Milford in said County,
GREETING :- .
In the name of the Commonwealth aforesaid, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of said Town, qualified by law to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet at the town hall in said Town on Wednesday, the seventeenth day of July, A. D. 1929, punctually at 8 o'clock in the evening, to act upon the fol- lowing articles, namely :-
Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to amend the vote taken under Article 26 of the warrant for the Annual

Town Meeting of March 11, 1929, so as to read as follows :-
Voted: That there be raised and appropriated a sum not exceeding $100,000.00 for the purpose of rebuilding Main Street from the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad crossing to Hopedale town line, of permanent pavement, reinforced concrete, to be rebuilt under the supervision of the Department of Public Works, Division of Highways; and that, to meet said appropriation, there be raised in the tax levy of the current year the sum of $25,000.00, and the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow a sum not exceeding $75,000.00 and to issue bonds or notes of the Town therefor, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19, Chapter 44, General Laws, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years or at such earlier dates as the Treas- urer and Selectmen may determine.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to amend the vote under Article 4 of the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting of March 11, 1929, so as to read as follows :-
Voted: That there be raised and appropriated the sum of $10,000.00 for the purpose of rebuilding South Main Street from a point near the property of Ancilo S. Anto- lini toward Main Street, said sum to be used in conjunc- tion with money allotted by the State and County for this purpose.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of removing poles, police and fire alarm wires on Main Street, certain wires entering into front of town hall building, place said wires underground on Main Street and enter town hall building in the rear, said money to be expended under the supervision of the Selectmen, or take any action in rela- tion thereto.
Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of seventeen hundred and fifty dollars ($1,750.00)

received by the Town from the Citron-Byer Company to revenue of 1929, to be used by the assessors to determine the 1929 tax rate.
Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to authorize its Selectmen to appoint a committee of five to investigate the advisability of constructing or dedicating a suitable memorial for the purpose of properly commemorating the services and sacrifices of persons who served in the World War, and report at the next Annual Town Meeting.
Article 7. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to carry out the vote of the Town taken on March 11, 1929, under Article 14 of the warrant of the Annual Town Meeting in connection with the purchase of the Cedar Swamp Pond, so-called, with the encumbrances now. existing thereon, or vote to purchase in fee certain land from the Clark heirs, raise and appropriate a sum of money for either of said purposes, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of forty-five hundred dollars ($4,500.00) to purchase a piece of fire apparatus, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to recondition the athletic field on the Town Park, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for highways the sum of three thousand dol- lars ($3,000.00), or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) for construction of sewers, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) for the purpose of removing or treating the

elm tree in front of 171 Congress Street, the same being a menace to public safety, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to accept and allow the report of the Selectmen on the laying out of Nelson Heights, so-called.
Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the purpose of moving a hydrant now located near No. 99 Water Street, or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to accept and allow the report of the Selectmen on the laying out of Overlea Avenue.
Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to accept and allow the report of the Selectmen on the laying out of South Terrace.
Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to purchase from George H. Spindel his sand pit located on Haven Street, raise and appropriate the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) therefor, or take any action in rela- tion thereto.
Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to make appli- cation to the General Court of Massachusetts for the pas- sage of an act to authorize precinct voting, representative town meetings, the election of town meeting members, a referendum, and an annual moderator in the Town of Milford, or take any action in relation thereto.
And you are hereby directed to serve This Warrant by posting up attested copies thereof at each of the Public Meeting Houses and at the Post Office in said Town; also cause an attested copy to be published in the Milford Daily News, a newspaper published in said Town, two Sabbaths at least before the time set for said meeting.
Hereof Fail Not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Clerk of said Town, at the time of meeting aforesaid.

Under Article 1. The meeting made choice of John T. McLoughlin as moderator, the vote being unanimous.
Article 2. L. Blaine Libbey, Secretary of the Finance Committee, submitted the following report for the Com- mittee :

Mr. Moderator :
The Finance Committee submit the following report based on the articles contained in the Town Warrant dated July 5th, 1929.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to amend the vote taken under Article 26 of the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting of March 11, 1929. Your committee recom- mend that the article be favorably acted upon.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to amend the vote taken under Article 4 of the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting of March 11, 1929. Your committee rec- ommend that the article be favorably acted upon.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of removing poles, police and fire alarm wires on Main Street, certain wires entering into front of town hall building, place said wires underground on Main Street, and enter town hall building in the rear, said money to be expended under the supervision of the Selectmen, or take any action in rela- tion thereto. Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to purchase from George H. Spindel his sand pit located on Haven Street, raise and appropriate the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) therefor, or take any action in rela- tion thereto. A sub-committee was appointed to investi- gate the merits. of this sand pit. After receiving their report, it is the opinion of your committee that the article be passed over, without prejudice to the proposition, but rather with the thought that no action is necessary until the present supply from available sources becomes exhausted.
