t This year the School Department was not allowed the money that it earned, $702.84. This makes the actual cost $37,474.70; the cost per pupil based on average membership $28.85; on average attendance $30.11.
The attendance and membership in the previous reports have always been figured from September of one year to June of the next. This same policy was followed this year in order that a fair comparison might be made. The same has also been figured from March 1, 1911, to March 1, 1912, the same period of time as the fiscal year. The average membership for this time was 1361 91; the average attendance was 1301.79. The cost per pupil based on average membership was $28.03; on average attendance, $29.33 for our total expenses. Deducting what we earned, $702.84, the cost per pupil based on average membership was $27.51; on average attendance, $28.78. These figures are the real cost for the year.
