Town of Palmer
Report of Tree Warden
January 1, 1927
Honorable Board of Selectmen, Town of Palmer, Palmer, Mass.
Gentlemen :
Herewith my report as Tree Warden for the year 1296:
It was necessary to spend the following amount of money on trees in Palmer :
Aug. 1 Paid Journal-Register for printing notices. $ 6.25
Oct. 8 Paid Central Mass. Elec. Co. three bills for taking down trees that were in a dangerous condition and whose removal had been requested by the abutters. This work done on three different dates. 172.72
Oct. 28 Paid Joseph Cobb for moving dead limbs 187.50
Total $366.47
The expenditure of the above amount of money was due to the windstorm which took place in the middle of the Summer and also due to the removal of a number of dead trees that were in a dangerous condition and a menace to the public, in Palmer Depot, Three Rivers and Bondsville.
Respectfully submitted,
J. H. MacGEACHEY

The last annual town meeting provided for the appoint- ment of an additional patrolman and for the purchase of a motorcycle for use of the department. James F. Fitzgerald who had had considerable experience as a special police of- ficer, was appointed by the Selectmen as such patrolman and assigned by me to day work. He has performed his duties in a courteous and efficient manner. The addition of another officer to the force has made it possible for bet- ter protection to be given children on their way to and from the Park Street school building in the Depot Village. Patrol- man James F. Donahue was assigned to the performance of the duties of motorcycle officer. In this work he has proved very efficient. His presence upon the highways of the town, particularly the Boston Road, has had a marked effect upon the speed problem which is always with us. I
feel that the work this officer has done in patrolling the roads is responsible in a large measure for the fact that during the year there has been but one fatal automobile ac- cident upon the highways in the town and only one accident where there was serious personal injury. During the automobile season the department is called upon many times a day to investigate collisions and other accidents and to handle traffic at the scene of such accidents. This
53
work has been done much more quickly and effectively this year than in the past because of the ability of Officer Dona- hue to arrive at the scene within a few moments of time. He has also given the other villages of the town a subs- tantial amount of patrol service upon his motorcycle.
All the other officers have performed their duties in a commendable manner.
TIMOTHY J. CRIMMINS
Chief of Police.
