Report of Board of Selectmen
The Selectmen respectfully submit the following re-
port for the year 1939:
The Board organized with George B. Cheney as Chairman and Charles J. Fountain as Secretary.
The following appointments were made: Ernest E. Hobson, Town Counsel; Harriette Paine, Bookkeeper; Ralph E. Canning, Burial Agent; David L. Bodfish, Supt. of Graves; Edwin J. Duncan, Town Engineer; Joseph Marhelewicz, Animal Inspector; Thomas O'Connor, Supt. of Streets; and Robert L. McDonald, Clerk of Highway Matters.
The Board has attended to the several matters of Highway construction and repairs specifically voted at the last annual town meeting.
The Board has oiled and graveled twenty streets in the Town during 1939.
Beginning at Shearer's Corner and running 2150 ft. towards Bondsville, the Board constructed a new road under Chapter 90. The Board is pleased to report a bal- ance on the project of approximately 2,800.00 and various Chapter 90 roads in the town were improved and repaired with Town, State and County sharing the expense of same equally.
The Board has arranged for State and County assistance on the maintenance of Chapter 90 roads so called, the estimated cost being $6,000.00, the State and County to contribute $2,000.00 each.
52
The Board has arranged to transfer $4,250.00 from Dutton Bridge balance to be used with a like amount from the County and $8,500.00 from the State to con- struct about 2,700 ft. more of the Palmer-Bondsville Road, Chapter 90 Project.
Dutton Bridge was completed under Chapter 90 this past year.
W. P. A. has accomplished much in the line of Forest Fire Hazard work, and the town may point with pride to the various sidewalk, street and sewer projects which are a permanent and valuable asset to the town.
Recommendations for 1940 appropriations are not published herewith in order to save expense, but they have been filed with the Finance Committee.
The Board appreciates the cooperation and assist- ance given it by all officials of the Town and others during 1939.
