Report of Inspector of Animals
Palmer, Mass. December 31, 1943
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen,
Town of Palmer :
All inspections ordered by the Division of Livestock Disease Control have been completed, and the require- ments of Section 19, Chapter 129 of the General Laws of Massachusetts have been complied with. The necessary reports have been filed with the above mentioned depart- ment at 100 Nashua Street, Boston.
There were 44 visits made to examine and quaran- tine dogs known to have bitten persons. None of these dogs showed symptoms of rabies. One dog's head was shipped to the laboratories in Boston, there were no symptoms of rabies found.
There were 3 different investigations made as to cows being entered illegally into this town from another state. One of these has not as yet been released, wait- ing report of blood test ordered by the Director.
There were 7 herd identified and released. These cattle had to be identified as to ear tag numbers and properly released before they could be added to any herd.
A special inventory of all cattle was ordered by the Division of Livestock Disease Control in fear of a milk shortage in July. All farms were checked as to the number of cattle and young stock. The results were as follows, 683 cows and 288 young stock, about the same as last year.
Respectfully submitted,
GEORGE S. GAY
