Report of Library Trustees

The Trustees of the Haydenville Village Library beg to submit the following report :

Number of patrons of Library 155. Number of with- drawals during the past year about 7,000. 180 new books added to library. 143 books rebound and placed in circulation. 2,538 books now on the shelves for cir- culation.

As in the past we have endeavored by the judicious selection of books to maintain, if not improve, the general character of the books contained in this Library.

As current fiction is in the greatest demand, and as but a relatively small part of that fiction is of the highest class, some books that are somewhat ordinary in charac- ter have to be admitted. However, every reasonable care is used to keep out of this collection anything that might have a vicious influence. A number of Polish and Greek books have been added which appear to be appreciated by the people of these countries.

It may be of interest to note that we are one of about 400 free public libraries in our Commonwealth repre- sented by about 5,250,000 books, having a value of some $7,000,000. It is doubtful if any other state in the coun- try can approximate any such record as this.

It may be added that there are 228 free reading rooms in connection with these libraries. If our building were

24

suitable for such it would be a most desirable addition to our library work.

Signed, GEORGE M. PAGE, THOMAS H. IVES, E. CYRUS MILLER, Trustees.

ANNUAL REPORT

OF THE

SCHOOL COMMITTEE

OF THE

TOWN OF WILLIAMSBURG

FOR THE

Year Ending January 1, 1916

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. PRESS OF GAZETTE PRINTING CO. 1916

Report of School Committee

For the Year Ending January 1, 1916.

We hereby submit our annual report of the School Committee, including Music Teacher, Truant Officer, etc.

The High School has been in session forty (40) weeks and all others thirty-six (36) weeks.

The committee have been able to keep within the ap- propriation and have a balance of three dollars and forty- five cents, ($3.45).

We would recommend this year, painting of some of the buildings in the out districts and ordinary repairs on all buildings to keep them in good repair.

The Committee feel justified in asking for the same ap- propriation this year as last and believe it will cover all expenses.

Respectfully submitted, G. H. WARNER, H. P. GODDARD, H. A. SMITH.
