The cash balance of the Town Treasurer is cor- rect and agrees with the difference between amounts received and warrants for payments.

As the state auditors went into the accounts of the Tax Collector in great detail, examination of these accounts, and the sending to delinquents of statements of balances due, was omitted, thereby saving the town the expense of this examination. The amount obtained by me in December for stamps, $10.00, was returned to the Town Treasurer as of Feb. 5, 1938.

To insure a more complete check on the ac- counts of the Tax Collector it is recommended that the town approve the inclusion of stamped envelopes in the statements sent by the Town Auditor to delin- quent taxpayers, thus insuring replies if the state- ments are incorrect.

The accounts of the Town Treasurer were in- complete, especially in the payments for Old Age Assistance, and recourse was necessary to other sources in order to check these payments. The to- tals of these accounts varied from the totals of the Old Age Assistance warrants in that several amounts were entered on regular warrants, and that the Old

ANNUAL REPORT

Age Assistance warrants also contained part of the amounts paid as Aid to Dependent Children.

A careful study of the report and recommenda- tions of the State Auditors is earnestly recommended.

I hereby certify that the information contained in this report is complete and correct, to the best of my knowledge and belief.

FRANCIS F. G. ANDREWS,

Town Auditor.

MOTH DEPARTMENT

In addition to the regular amount furnished by the Town of Berkley, the State Moth Department alloted to the Town for labor and materials, $872.08.
