In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Braintree, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Braintree, on Wednesday, the twenty- eighth day of August, 1895, at seven and one-half o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :


ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 2. To see if the town will vote to authorize the Water Commissioners to extend the water pipes on Hancock street, from a point near the residence of Michael Brandley, to a point near the house occupied, by Thomas Mealy, and make the necessary appropriation therefor.


ART. 3. To choose one member of the Board of Sinking Fund Commissioners.


ART. 4. To see if the town will authorize the treasurer to borrow an additional sum of money in anticipation of taxes under the direction of the selectmen.


ART. 5. To see if the town will appropriate an additional sum of money from the overlay on taxes to be expended on the highways.


You are to give notice of this meeting by posting up true and attested copies of this warrant, in not less than nine public places in this town, seven days at least before the time of said meeting, and by publishing once in the Braintree Reporter.


Hereof fail not and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Town Clerk, before the time of said meeting.

BRAINTREE, AUGUST 28, 1895.


In accordance with the foregoing warrant the meeting was called to order and the warrant read by the town clerk.


ART. 1. Upon ballot with the use of the check list, John V. Scollard was chosen Moderator and sworn by the town clerk.


ART. 2. Voted, that the whole subject be referred to the water commissioners.


ART. 3. Voted, to proceed to the election by ballot of one member of the board of Sinking Fund Commissioners for the term of three years, his term expiring March, 1898, and T. Haven Dearing was chosen and accepted the position.


ART. 4. Voted, unanimously that the town treasurer is hereby authorized to borrow with the approval of the board of selectmen a sum or sums in the aggregate amounting to $20,000 additional. Said debt or debts incurred under this vote shall be paid from the taxes of the present municipal year.


ART. 5. Was referred to next annual meeting.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Braintree, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Friday, the first day of November, 1895, at seven and one-half o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :


ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 2. To see if the town will authorize the Board of Water Commissioners to purchase a piece of land of N. E. Hollis and Elisha Thayer, connecting with the stand-pipe lot, or to take such action in relation to buying or exhanging land with said Hollis and Thayer as may be recommended by the Board of Water Commissioners.


ART. 3. To see if the town will vote a sum of money to drain the northerly section of Tremont street, said drain also to take the water which overflows from the stand-pipe, Mr. N. E. Hollis agreeing to pay one-half of the expense of the same.


ART. 4. To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money to enlarge or extend the circuit for electric lights in East Braintree in order to relieve the circuit of South Braintree as recommended by the superintendent of electric lights.


You are to give notice of this meeting by posting up true and attested copies of this warrant, in not less than nine public places in this town, seven days before the time of said meeting, and by publishing once in the Braintree Reporter.

BRAINTREE, NOVEMBER 1, 1895.


In accordance with the foregoing warrant the meeting was called to order and the warrant read by the town clerk. On bal- lot by the use of the check list Ansel O. Clark was elected mod- erator and sworn by the town clerk.


ART. 2. Voted, unanimously that the water commissioners be authorized to purchase such land now bordering on the stand- pipe lot on the east and west side of said lot, if they can do so at a price satisfactory to them; and that on the south and west side of said standpipe lot they change land foot for foot as per plan here submitted,


ART. 3. Voted, that the sum of three hundred dollars be appropriated, and as much of the sum used as may be necessary, provided an equal sum is paid by the owners of the land upon the south side of the standpipe lot for the purpose of building a drain running from Tremont street over and through the land owned by Elisha Thayer, N. E. Hollis and Asa French, and pro- vided the right be conveyed in perpetuity to the town to occupy said drain on their said land west of a proposed street as shown on a plan here submitted, said drain to be constructed under

direction of superintendent of water works if deemed expedient.


ART. 4. Voted, to appropriate the sum of four hundred dollars to enlarge or extend the circuit for electric lights in East Braintree in order to relieve the circuit of South Braintree, as recommended by the superintendent of electric lights.


ART. 2. Voted, to appropriate the sum of four hundred dollars for the purpose of carrying out the vote passed under this article.

In accordance with the foregoing warrant, the meeting was called to order and the warrant read by Ansel O. Clark, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen. William A. Kane and Richard L. Arnold having been appointed Inspectors; George D. Willis and John V. Scollard, Deputy Inspectors ; L. Willard Morrison, Daniel Potter, Willie H. Shaw, John H. Sullivan, Brainard T. Dyer and Albert E. Avery, Tellers; by the Selectmen, were sworn to the faithful discharge of their duties.


The polls were declared open at three minutes past six o'clock, A. M.


Voted, that the polls be closed at one o'clock, P. M., and at that time they were declared closed.


At the close of the counting the presiding officer announced that seven hundred and ninety five ballots had been deposited in the ballot box, that the check list of Clark and Kane showed the same number of names checked, and that they were for the following persons, namely : also one female vote on the suffrage question.

of 1896.


NORFOLK, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree, GREETING :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree qualified to vote in town affairs to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Monday the second day of March, 1896, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, to act on the fol- lowing articles, namely :


ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 2. To hear the report of the several town officers and act thereon.


ART. 3. To determine the manner of repairing the high- ways and bridges the ensuing year.


ART. 4. To choose all necessary town officers for the ensu- ing year. Also to vote on the following question, Yes or No, as required by Chapter 54 of the Acts of 1881, namely: Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this town ? Under this article the polls will be kept open until one o'clock P. M.


ART. 5. To see if the town will authorize the treasurer with the approval of the Board of Selectmen to borrow money in anticipation of taxes.

ART. 6. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to defray the expenses of the town for the ensuing year.


ART. 7. To see if the town will accept the list of jurors as prepared by the board of Selectmen.


ART. 8. To see if the town will vote to charge interest on all unpaid taxes, after a certain date.


ART. 9. To see if the town will vote an appropriation and pay the same to General Sylvanus Thayer Post 87, G. A. R., to assist in defraying the expenses of Memorial Day.


ART. 10. To see what compensation the town will vote to pay the members of the fire department for the ensuing year.


ART. 11. To appropriate a sum of money for hydrant ser- vice.


ART. 12. To appropriate a sum of money for the Water Loan Sinking Fund.


ART. 13. To appropriate a sum of money for the Electric Light Sinking Fund.


ART. 14. To appropriate a sum of money to convey pupils to and from the public schools.


ART. 15. To see if the town will vote to continue the sys- tem of Night Police and appropriate money for the same.


ART. 16. To make the necessary appropriations for operat- ing the Electric Lighting System.


ART. 17. By request of Water Board, to see if the town will appropriate the sum of three thousand dollars, said sum or any portion of it to be expended under the direction of the Board of Water Commissioners in extending the water mains to such portions of the town as said board in its judgment may think feasible.


ART. 18. By the Water Board. To see if the town will vote to connect Great Pond and Little Pond in the manner proposed by the Board of Water Commissioners.


ART. 19. By the Water Board. To see if the town will instruct the Board of Water Commissioners to petition the

General Court for authority to issue $20,000 additional water bonds or notes for the purpose of defraying the expense of in- creasing the water supply,


ART. 20. To see if the town will authorize its Selectmen to discharge an old mortgage given by Elisha Wild to the town dated Oct. 2, 1849, and recorded with Norfolk County Deeds in Book 197, Page 245, and release its interest in the property therein described to Nathan Rosenfeld the present owner.


ART. 21. To see if the town will appropriate the sum of $600 to purchase a combination wagon for the east part of the town.


ART. 22. To see if the town will appropriate the sum of $650 for the purchase of new hose for the fire department.


ART. 23. To see if the town will grant free use of the Union engine to the Union Veteran Firemen's Association.


ART. 24. To see if the town will reappropriate for the use of the Fire Department, the sum of $40 of the unexpended appropriation of said department of 1895.


ART. 25. To see if the town will elect a Municipal Light Board, as provided by Section 10 of Chapter 454 of the Acts of the Legislature of 1893.


ART. 26. To see if the town will accept Section 271 of Chapter 417 and Section 23 of Chapter 423 of the Acts of the Legislature of 1893, and elect a Board of Road Commissioners as provided by said Acts.


ART. 27. To see if the town will choose a Board of Health.


ART. 28. To see if the town will accept the provisions of Chapter 186 of the acts of the Legislature of 1895. And appropriate a sum of money to be expended for watering the public streets.


ART. 29. To see if the town will vote to extend the Water System to Mayflower Park.


ART. 30. To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money sufficient to light the Thayer Public Library by electric- ity.

ART. 31. To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money to build a fence front of Plain Street Cemetery.


ART. 32. To see if the town will appropriate a sum suffi- cient to place a marker of the Society of the Sons of the Ameri- can Revolution at the grave of each Revolutionary soldier or sailor buried in this town, the expense not to exceed one dollar each.


ART. 33. To see if the town will choose a Board of Asses- sors, other than the Selectmen.


ART. 34. To see if the town will appoint a committee to confer with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Company in relation to making a change in the grade crossing of said railroad on Union street.


You are to give notice of this meeting by posting up true and attested copies of this warrant in not less than nine public places in this town seven days at least before the time of said meeting and by publishing once in the Braintree Observer.
