Voted that the matter of the purchase of new machinery for the Water Department and the filtering of the waters of Great Pond, be recommitted to the committee now having the matter under advisement and that the Moderator have power to fill all vacancies on said committee. The pres- ent members of said committee are H. A. Rhoades, W. F. Rogers, O. A. Bridgham, F. W. McCarter, C. G. Jordan, D. G. Doane, W. C. Harrison, E. J. Sullivan and one vacancy, said committee to report in print at the next annual meeting.


Art. 4 The Town Clerk read a letter from George F. F. Wild, Rear Admiral U. S. N., tendering the Town an oil paint- ing of himself to be hung in the Town Hall free of expense.


Voted to accept the proposition of Admiral Wild and that the same be received and placed in the office of the Selectmen.

WARRANT FOR SPECIAL TOWN MEETING.

Norfolk, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree. Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Braintree, on Monday, the fourth day of April, 1910, at 7.30 o'clock P. M., to act on the following articles, viz :


Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meet- ing.


Art. 2. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money to be used for completing the construction of the Abraham Lincoln Schoolhouse and to determine how the money shall be raised.

Art. 3. To see if the Town will accept the laying out of Highland Avenue, so-called, (leading easterly from Washing- ton Street to Hancock Street) as a Town way as made by the Selectmen and raise and appropriate a sum of money to build the same.


You are to give notice of this meeting by posting true and attested copies of this warrant in not less than nine public places in this town, seven days at least before the time of said meeting, and by publishing the same once in the Braintree Observer-Reporter and Braintree Bee.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Town Clerk before the time of said meeting.

Braintree, April 18, 1910.


The Town met in accordance with adjournment from April 4th. Moderator Woodsum in the chair.


Article 2. Voted that the sum of seven thousand ($7,000) dollars be appropriated for the purpose of complet- ing the construction of the Abraham Lincoln Schoolhouse now being built in Precinct Three and that said moneys be spent under the direction of the building committee appointed at the last annual meeting with full powers to erect said building, 93 gentlemen voted in the affirmative, none in the negative.


Voted, by ballot with the use of the check lists, that for the purpose of meeting the above appropriation, the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized under the direction of a ma- jority of the Selectmen to issue from time to time as needed by the building committee of said school for the purpose named the notes of the Town to an aggregate amount not exceeding seven thousand ($7,000) dollars as follows, viz .: Dated Sept. 1. 1910, three notes of one thousand ($1,000) · dollars each payable Sept. 1, 1911, three notes of one thousand ($1,000) dollars each payable Sept. 1, 1912, one note of one thousand ($1,000) dollars payable Sept. 1, 1913. All to bear interest at the rate of four per cent per annum, payable semi-annual- ly. 1


Should the completion of said building not require the issuance of all the within named notes the authorization therefore shall become null and void, and should the final settlement of the Town with the original contractors Jones & Carlton and their sureties not equal the sum heretofore appro- priated together with the sums expended under this vote for the completion of the building, such surplus shall revert to the Treasurer of the Town and be used towards the payment of the next maturing note, 56 votes were cast in the affirma- tive and none in the negative.

On Tuesday, the eighth day of November, 1910, at 5.45 o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to bring in to the Wardens of their respective Precincts their votes on the offi- cial ballot for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, Attorney General, Representative in Con- gress, Councillor, Senator, Representative in the General Court, County Commissioner, Associate Commissioners, Dis- trict Attorney, Sheriff.


The polls will be kept open until 1 o'clock in the after- noon.


You are directed to serve this Warrant by posting true and attested copies thereof in not less than three public places in each Precinct in said Town seven days at least before the said eighth day of November, 1910, and by publishing the same once in the Braintree Observer-Reporter and Braintree Bee.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Selectmen before the time of said election.

In accordance with the foregoing warrant the voters as- sembled in their respective precinets to cast their ballots for state and county officers as specified in the warrant. All the election officers of precinct one and the wardens of precincts, two and three were sworn by the Town Clerk, the other elec- tion officers were sworn by their respective wardens.


The official ballots were delivered to each of the wardens by the Town Clerk and their receipts taken therefor. The polls were opened in each precinct at five o'clock and forty- five minutes A.
