Under Article Three:


On a motion made by Stewart Mackay, it was voted: £ To authorize the Select- men to act as its agent in any suit or suits which may arise during the current year, with authority to settle and adjust claims or demands for or against the Town; and to employ counsel whenever in their judgment it is necessary.


Under Article Four :


On a motion made by Harold C. Petterson, it was voted: That the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, be authorized to borrow money in anticipation of the revenue of the current financial year, from time to time, beginning Janu- ary Ist, 1943. And to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44 of the General Laws.


Under Article Five:


On a motion made by Sidney Dupee, it was voted: To transfer from the Overlay Reserve account a sum of money not exceeding Two Thousand ($2000) Dollars to be used as a Reserve Fund at the discretion of the Finance Committee, as provided in General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 6.


Under Article Six:


First - It was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1, 764.72 for the purpose of paying unpaid bills of previous years, the bills so specified were bills which required only a majority vote.


Second ----- It was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $428.48 for the purpose of paying unpaid bills of previous years, the bills so specified required a four fifths vote. 125 voted in the affirmative and no one voted in the negative. Third ----- It was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $6,339.90 for the purpose of paying unpaid bills of previous years. The bills so specified required a four fifths vote. 105 voted in the affirmative and nineteen voted in the nega- tive.


The total voted for unpaid bills being $8,533.10.


Mr. Fred Wiggin and Mr. Leo Williams were appointed Tellers by the Moderator and the Tellers were sworn in by Town Clerk, Harold C. Petterson. A hand vote was taken.


Under Article Seven:


On a motion made by Stewart Maokay, it was voted: To raise and appropriate

the sum of $2,274.84 to pay the County of Middlesex as required by law the Town's share of the net cost of the care, maintenance and repair of the Middlesex County Tuberculosis Hospital, as assessed in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 111 of the General Laws.


Under Article Eight:


In regard to the appropriation for the Town's share of Surplus Commodities, it was voted to dismiss this article.


Under Article Nine:


On a motion made by Mr. Wright to authorize the School Committee to sell to the United States Government typewriters used at the High School, this motion was defeated.


Under Article Ten :


1 On a motion made by Stewart Mackay, it was voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 for the purpose of leasing from Cora M. Kidder the garage located near the intersection of the Littleton Road and North Road and adjacent to the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad property, under such terms and conditions as the Selectmen deem best.


Under Article Eleven:


On a motion made by James A. Grant, it was voted: That the Town accept a bequest of money bequeathed to the Town for use of the Varney Playground by the late Emma Gay. It was explained by Mr. Grant that the Board of Selectmen would have full control of such bequest and invest and expend the money in any way that they deemed best.


Under Article Twelve:


On a motion made by Herber: M. Sturtevant, it was voted: To raise and approp- riate the sum of $900.00 for the purpose of purchasing new equipment for the For- est fire Department. The same to be expended under the direction of the Forest Warden.


Under Article Thirteen:


On a motion made by Karl M. Perham, it was voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $7.64 to defray the Town's share of the expense of the cost of opera- tion of the Newburyport Purification Plant.


Under Article Fourteen :


On a motion made by Arthur W. House, it was voted: To transfer from the fund entitled "Sales of Cemetery Lots and Graves" the sum of $300.00 for the purpose of defraying the cost of the care and improvement and embellishment of some or all of the cemeteries in town.


UNDER Article fifteen,


On a motion made by James A. Grant, it was voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $2,000.00 to defray the cost of Civilian Defense.


Under Article Sixteen:


On a motion made by Stewart Mackay, it was voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $9.64 for the purpose of defraying the cost of Vocational Education. Under Article Seventeen:


On a motion made by Harold C. Petterson, it was voted: To raise and Appropri- ate the sum of $900.00 for the purpose of foreolosing tax titles.

Under Article Eighteen:


On a motion made by Harold C. Petterson, it was voted: To authorize the Assessors to use a sum of money in the amount such as the Commissioner of Corp- orations and Taxation of the Commonwealth may approve as free cash, not in excess of $7,000, said sum of money to be used in determining the tax rate for the year 1943.


Under Article Nineteen:


On a motion made by Harold C. Petterson, it was voted: To transfer and appropriate from the account entitled "Sale of Real Estate", the sum of $6657.05 to an account to be called "Payment of Net Bonded Debt". This money to be ex- pended in accordance with Section 65, Chapter 44 of the General Laws and any amendments thereto.

In regard to amending the building laws, it was voted to dismiss this article. Under Article Twenty One:
