Report of the School Committee
To the Citizens of Middleton and the Secretary of State Board of Education:
The School Committee takes pleasure in once more being able to report in behalf of our schools that they are fully up to the high standard of previous years.
Teachers
The corps of teachers remained unchanged as last reported until the beginning of the summer vacation. With the open- ing of the school in September, we found that we were to be deprived of the valuable services of Miss Nellie C. Howe who felt obliged to temporarily retire on account of personal be- reavement. Miss Howe has taught faithfully and well for many years in this school; how faithfully and how well the people of Middleton need not be told. Our school is a good one, standing far above the average, and the fact that these things are true is due in no small measure to the high grade service rendered by Miss Howe. The thanks and appreciation of the community are due this faithful teacher.
To fill the vacancy thus created we were fortunate in securing Mrs. A. F. Henderson who has filled the gap in an efficient and satisfactory manner.
Miss Solomon, the drawing teacher, resigned in June to accept a position at the State Normal School in Salem, and her place was taken by Miss Randall who is doing good work in teaching drawing and also in teaching the girls to sew.

SCHOOL REPORT
In January, Miss Ella Richardson felt obliged to resign her position as teacher of the third and fourth grades and for the present the vacancy is filled by a substitute, Miss Carey.
Miss Richardson was a careful and capable teacher and we were sorry to have her leave.
Transportation
The barge transportation of the children continues to be satisfactorily done by the same party as last year who is under a three year contract.
Superintendent
Our Superintendent, Mr. Harvey R. Williams, continues to render the same careful and efficient service that we have always received at his hands. This Town is fortunate, through the generous provisions of the Commonweath, to have the service of a high grade man like Mr. Williams in this important position.
School Building
The easterly room on the lower floor was enlarged to in- clude the space formerly occupied by the stairway to the base- ment. This change was necessary in order to accommodate the larger number of pupils and also to provide more suitable lighting for the room. A small addition was constructed to admit to the basement on the southeast corner and a new bulk- head entrance to the basement was added on the north east corner. The work of these alterations was satisfactorily per- formed by a citizen of Middleton.
