LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
To the citizens of Middleton:
The Trustees wish to explain to the citizens of the Town the re- pairs which have been made on the Library building.
The lighting system has been thoroughly gone over. New fixtures and lights much appreciated by the users of the reading room have been installed under the supervision of Representative A. L. Jones, so that Middleton library today is one of the best lighted libraries in the state.
The floors of the reading room, librarian's room, and stack room have been carpeted with battleship linoleum.
The building has been pointed up and painted on the outside and the inside is now started. By distributing the improvements over a period of two more years, we will be able to make all repairs out of our regular income.
Respectfully submitted,
HARLEY M. TYLER, Treasurer.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT 1934
The C. W. A. project, which was started in Flint Public Library December 20, 1933 and closed February 15, 1934, left the work unfin- ished. Later in the year, with the assistance of the State Depart- ment of Education, this work was finished.
On April 2, 3, 4, the librarian attended Library Institute at the State College, Amherst. These meetings are planned by the Division of Public Libraries for the small town librarians and are very helpful to all who attend them.
Visitors to the library enjoyed the travel pictures of Ireland, loaned by the Women's Educational Bureau of Boston.
The following magazines were found in the reading room the past year. American, American Boy, American Girl, American Home, American Legion, Better Homes and Gardens, Boy's Life, Child Life, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, National Republic, Our Dumb Animals, Popular Science, Readers' Digest, Time, New Eng- land Poultryman, Christian Science Monitor, Speciality Salesman.
As usual, certificates were awarded by the library to pupils of the grammar school for reading the required number of books on the state reading list.
National Book Week for children was observed in November. "Ride the book trail to knowledge and adventure" was the slogan. Groups of books suggesting hobbies were on display with an exhibit of work made by the children. During the week, a story hour was en- joyed by the three lower grades. Miss Evelyn Bilman of Lynn was the story-teller.

BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To the citizens of Middleton:
Pursuant to the general practice of making departmental reports, the following is a report of the activities of the Board for the year ending December, 1934.
The Board wishes to extend at this time its thanks to the organi- zations and clubs of this Town, because we believe by your welfare work you have kept a number of persons off the Public Welfare and in so doing you have helped to keep the cost down.
There was on the Public Welfare during the year 54 families repre- senting 180 persons, this is an increase of 16 families over the year 1933.
We have in Middleton four camp settlements where a large number of people live and most of these people are very poor, it is from this source that a great many of our Welfare cases come from.
These are mostly outside cases for which this Town is reimbursed.
We have a number of State cases on Public Welfare for which this Town is reimbursed.
