LIBRARIAN'S REPORT 1935
During the past year Flint Public Library has been open as usual, every Tuesday and Saturday evening and Saturday afternoon, except on holidays, and twice because of bad storms.
In May, the librarian attended Library Institute, held at Hyannis Teachers' College, for five days. As previously stated, these meetings are planned and conducted by the Division of Public Libraries, Depart- ment of Education. There were classes, round table discussions, and interesting lectures. It is very helpful for one to get away occasion- ally to see and hear about the work that others are doing. As reports from other libraries were heard, it was noted by the librarian that Middleton is more fortunate than many small towns throughout the state. It has a fine library building with excellent lighting and heat, and a reasonable number of new books added each year.
Visitors to the library have found the following magazines in the reading room:
American, American Boy, American Girl, American Home, Amer- ican Legion, Better Home and Gardens, Boy's Life, Child Life, The Club Woman, Christian Science Monitor, Columbia, Good Housekeep- ing, National Geographic, National Republic, Our Dumb Animals, Popular Science, Reader's Digest, Time, New England Poultryman, Specialty Salesman.
Deposits of books were sent as usual to the Grammar school for special reading. There were many certificates awarded for five, ten, fifteen and twenty books. Special mention should be given to Foster Pickard who read over forty books.
In November, National Book week was observed with exhibits of books for children. The slogan this year was "Reading for Fun."

PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT
Gifts of books were received from Mrs. Sue Wells and Lennart Winquist, Division of Public Libraries.
The circulation of books has not been as large this year as in 1934. It is hoped that the number of readers will increase for there are many fine books in the library even if one does not get a new book each time. A book is a new book if you have not read it. Visit your library and avail yourself of its privileges.
The librarian wishes to express thanks and appreciation to the members of the Board of Trustees, for their continued co-operation and willing support in the general management of the library.

Respectfully submitted,
SARAH E. CARLETON, Librarian.
BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To the citizens of Middleton:
The following is a brief report of the Board for the year ending December 31, 1935.
From January 1, 1935 to December 31, 1935 there were 57 cases handled representing 164 persons on Public Welfare and were divided as follows:
Unsettled or State cases 12
Cities and Towns
27
Town 18
At the present time there are five Middleton families living in other cities and towns who have received aid during the year.
As your Welfare Department looks ahead for the year 1936; the outlook is very uncertain, but as our budget was carefully compiled we feel that the amount asked for may be sufficient.
OLD AGE ASSISTANCE
Twenty-six persons received Old Age Assistance during 1935.
Respectfully submitted,
RICHARD B. FLOYD, Chairman. AUSTIN C. PEABODY, Jr. Clerk. ARTHUR T. PAGE

CATTLE INSPECTOR'S REPORT
REPORT OF THE CATTLE INSPECTOR
Middleton, Mass., January 26, 1935.
The report of the Cattle Inspector for the year 1935 is herewith submitted:
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
We have in town six hundred and twenty-three (623) head of cattle. Much of the work this year was pertaining to the testing for the eradi- cation of Bovine Tuberculosis and all cows in town are now in good condition. Many improvements have been made on the farms, new milk-rooms have been built and water systems installed. Where all milk is sold the farmers have certificates from the Department of Agri- culture. Testing was begun a month ago and thus far with very good results.
SWINE
We have not as many in number as last year as, of course, the swine raisers received pay from the Government to reduce their num- ber. Also during the past two months there have been a large number slaughtered.
Respectfully,
LYMAN S. WILKINS, Inspector.

One of the most important things I would suggest to your honor- able board is that the square in the center of the town be laid out and marked off so that there will be less confusion and safer parking there. A great number of times during the day there are two and sometimes three large busses parked there and in the early evening with fifteen or twenty cars there is a great confusion and the highways are blocked. I think most of this can be eliminated by proper markings.
Respectfully submitted,
WILLIAM H. YOUNG,
Chief of Police

REPORT OF DOG OFFICER
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I submit my report as Dog Officer of the Town of Middleton for 1935.
Dogs found dead and buried
6
Stray dogs found, shot and buried
10
Stray dogs returned to owners
4
Stray dogs detained for six days shot and buried
6
Labor, investigating miscellaneous complaints
30
Total distance covered with car for all purposes

Dead and stray cats taken care of 11
I wish to state that I have taken care of anything that has been brought to my attention as soon as it was possible and wish to thank the people of the Town, as a lot of them have called me up or made it there way whenever they were bothered by stray dogs and as you see by my report as to stray homeless cats. As to the dog taxes overdue and turned over to me and should I have the job for 1936, people hav- ing dogs will be made to realize that if they want to keep dogs they will have to pay the taxes on same when due or when called for by the dog officer as these things are checked more closely now, and a lot of new laws have been passed regarding this fact by the State.
