HARD-SURFACED STREETS
On 10 streets, the old surface was scarified, brought up to grade with gravel and replaced with a top surface of No. 2 stone and K.P. tar, rolled and sealed with tar and sand. Eight streets were resurfaced with 1/2-inch stone and tar, mixed-in-place and rolled.

SPECIAL BUDGET
Long Pond Road, approximately 1 mile of gravel road was scarified 6 inches deep and the loose material was removed to the sides of the road. The base was made hard with gravel, rolled and penetrated with light tar. The loose gravel was brought back and mixed with 11/2 gallons of tar per sq. yd., mixed-in-place with a grader, brought up to the grade and rolled. This base was left to cure for two weeks and then sealed with tar and sand.
Water St., after the WPA drainage system was com- pleted a new road was built. The old road was scarified and clay removed, approximately 3 feet deep. The old road bed was brought up to grade with gravel and rolled. A base course of 3-inch stone was placed on the gravel bed, using 2,054 tons, penetrated with 19,451 gallons of asphalt at the rate of 11/2 gallons per sq. yd. A top sur- face of 1,026 tons of Pre-Mixed material was laid on top 2 inches deep and rolled. One rotary circle was installed at the junction of Water St. and Park Ave., eleven ce- ment circles placed around the trees along the east side of Water St.
CHAPTER 90 (State-County-Town)
Approximately 4,000 feet of road was built on So. Meadow Road. The road was widened from 16 feet to 22 feet with a mixed-in-place base of gravel and tar, rolled and sealed with retread tar and sand. Two new drains were installed with four inlets and 100 feet of 10-inch corrugated pipe was used. About one more mile of this type of road will be laid in 1942.
At Red Brook Road, 1000 feet of mixed-in-place road was built with gravel and tar. This road was widened from 18 feet to 22 feet. This section of the road being hard surfaced, makes a tar road from Bourne circle to Route No. 3.
CARTER'S BROOK BRIDGE
The old wooden bridge was removed and replaced with a reinforced concrete bridge. This bridge was built 6 feet

wider than the old bridge to take care of the traffic that travels to Island Pond and the Scout Camp.
STANDISH AVE. BRIDGE
The railroad bridge on Standish Ave. was removed and made safe for heavy traffic and large trucks. The old railroad bed was filled with 3,500 C.Y. of gravel and brought up to grade with the road bed of Standish Ave. There will be a hard surface road built over this fill this coming year, also sidewalks and fences.
SIDEWALKS AND CURBING
Water St., east side, 308 feet cement sidewalk, 10 feet wide, was replaced. This section of sidewalk settled in a heavy north east storm last winter. A large number of cement slabs have been removed and replaced with hot-mixed material. 80 feet of cement curb was built on the south side of Prince St. at Volta's Filling Station.
Lines and grades for streets and sewers have been supplied by our Town Engineer, Arthur E. Blackmer, and records of same kept on file.
