The Auditors of accounts, for the town of Quincy, for the year ending Feb. 1, 1861, have attended to the duty assigned them, and in the perform- ance of that duty they have received great assistance from the selectmen, town clerk, and treasurer. We have examined the books and accounts of the selectmen and treasurer, and found them correctly kept and properly vouched. These books show the amount of receipts and expenditures of the town for one year, ending the 1st instant, which are arranged under their appropriate departments.
The committee have visited the Almshouse, and inspected its several apart ments, all of which were very neat and clean, and the inmates appeared to be quite comfortable and contented, and we beleive well and properly cared for by the Superintendent and his wife, who we think, are well qualified for, and faithful to their trust. We have also appraised all the personal property in and about the premises.
The Selectmen in the discharge of their various duties, and as Overseers of the Poor and Surveyors of Highways, have, we think, been judicious and economical, and acted for the best interest of the town.
The Auditors, at the suggestion of the Chairman of the Board of Select- men, recommend that the financial year with regard to the Schools, should hereafter commence on the 1st of February, and that all dues for teaching and all other bills be settled up to that date.
The names of persons, whose taxes remain unpaid, are published in the Appendix to this Report, in compliance with a vote of the town, passed at their last March meeting.
