ESSEX ss.
To either of the Constables of the Town of Swampscott, in said County,
Greeting.
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are directed to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Swampscott qualified to vote in Elections, and in Town Affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Swampscott, on Saturday, the Seventeenth day of March, current, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the fol- lowing Articles, viz :
ARTICLE I. To choose a Moderator to preside in said meeting.
ART. 2. To choose a Town Clerk for one (1) year. To choose a Board of Selectmen for the year ensuing.
To choose one member of the Board of Asses- sors for three (3) years.
To choose a Town Treasurer for one (1) year. To choose a Collector of Taxes for the year ensuing.
To choose one member of the School Com- mittee for three (3) years.
To choose one or more Surveyors of Highways for one (1) year.

To choose one member of the Board of Trus- tees of the Public Library for three (3) years.
To choose three members of the Board of Au- ditors for the year ensuing.
To choose one Overseer of the Poor for three (3) years.
To choose a Board of Health for one (1) year. To choose one or more Surveyors of Lumber for the ensuing year.
To choose one or more Measurers of Wood and Bark for one (1) year.
To choose two or more Fence Viewers for the ensuing year.
To choose all necessary Constables and Field Drivers for one (1) year.
All to be chosen on one ballot.
ART. 3. Shall licenses be granted for the sale of Intox- icating Liquors in this Town ?- "Yes," or "No," by ballot.
ART. 4. To hear and act upon the Reports of the Au- diting Committee, the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee, the Surveyor of Highways, the Board of Trus- tees of the Public Library, the Engineers of the Fire De- partment, the Superintendent of the Cemetery. the Board of Health, the Chief of Police, the Milk Inspector, the Committee appointed to investigate the matter of Electric Lights for Street Lighting, the Committee appointed to erect a Drinking Fountain, the Committee appointed to investigate the matter of purchasing a Gravel-Pit.
ART. 5. To raise such sums of money as may be nec- essary to defray Town charges for the ensuing year, and make appropriations therefor.
ART. 6. To see what amount of bonds will be required of the Town Treasurer for the current year.

ART. 7. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer to hire money, under the direction of the Selectmen, to pay Town indebtedness.
ART. 8. To see if the Town will authorize the Treas- urer to hire money, under the direction of the Selectmen, in anticipation of the taxes to be assessed and collected for the current year.
ART. 9. To see what amount of bonds will be required of the Collector for the collection of taxes for the ensuing year.
ART. IO. To see what compensation the Town will allow the Collector for the collection of taxes for the cur- rent year.
ART. II. To see what action the Town will take in regard to the collection of taxes, and what rate of discount, if any, will be allowed for prompt payment on or before a certain date.
ART. 12. To see if the Town will accept the list of names for Jurors as prepared and posted by the Select- men.
ART. 13. To see if the Town will appropriate the money received from the County Treasurer for dog licenses to aid in support of the Public Library.
ART. 14. To see what compensation the Town will allow the members of the Fire Department the current year, and grant money for the same.
ART. 15. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to furnish and set curb-stones, and lay concrete sidewalks ; provided the abutters will pay one-half of the expense.
ART. 16. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum, not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), for the pur- pose of enforcing the laws in relation to the illegal sale of intoxicating liquors.

ART. 17. To see if the Town will purchase a Stone- Crushing Machine and apparatus connected therewith, or do anything in relation to same.
ART. 18. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to extend the water pipes from the main supply pipe in Redington Street through Blaney Street, that a water service may be available to residents of said Blaney Street, agreeable to the petition of Charles E. Harris and others.
ART. 19. To see if the Town will publish a book con- taining a list of the real and personal estate owners and the amount of their taxes from the Assessors' book, similar to the one published four (4) years ago, and known as the "Assessors' Valuation of the Real and Personal Estates of the Town," so that every voter and tax-payer may have one, agreeable to the petition of D. Roberts and others.
ART. 20. To see if the Town will appropriate a suffi- cient sum of money for the purpose of collecting house offal in a proper manner for the year, agreeable to the pe- tition of J. B. Hawes and others.
ART. 21. To see if the Town will grant the use of the Town Hall, free of expense, to D. W. Nisbett and others on December 25th. 1888, for the Children's Entertainment and Christmas Tree, agreeable to the petition of D. W. Nisbett and others.
ART. 22. To see if the Town will locate four hundred (400) feet of fire hose with pipe and two (2) wrenches, for the better protection against fire, and to be used for no other purpose, at some convenient place at or near Cannon Hill, so called, agreeable to the petition of Thomas E. Stone and others.
ART. 23. To see if the Town will extend the water pipes through Redington and Highland Streets, or take any action in relation to the same, and appropriate money therefor, agreeable to the petition of Noah R. Newcomb and others.

ART. 24. To see what action the Town will take in re- gard to removing the fire apparatus to a more central loca- tion, and make an appropriation for the same, agreeable to the petition of David K. Phillips and others.
ART. 25. To see if the Town will adopt the provisions of Sections twenty (20), twenty-one (21), twenty-two (22), and twenty-three (23), of Chapter fifty (50) of the Public Statutes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, also to see if the Town will adopt the provisions of Chapter three hundred and three (303) of the Statutes of said Com- monwealth of the year eighteen hundred and seventy-two (1872), and of Chapter one hundred and seven (107) of the Statutes of said Commonwealth, of the year eighteen hundred and seventy-four (1874), in relation to sidewalks, agreeable to the petition of Samuel F. Crosman and others.
ART. 26. To see if the Town will authorize the Select- men to cause to be graded and constructed or completed a continuous line of sidewalk upon the easterly side of Burrill and Humphrey Streets, in said town, from the Eastern Railroad to the junction of said Humphrey and Orient Streets, and complete the line of edgestones and lay in concrete said walk, agreeable to the petition of Samuel F. Crosman and others.
ART. 27. To see if the Town will widen and raise the culvert on Burrill Street, near New Ocean Street, and make appropriation for the same, agreeable to the petition of Joseph Stanley and others.
ART. 28. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of fifty dollars ($50), for repairing and improving the Sol- diers' Monument Grounds, agreeable to the petition of John Washburn and others.
ART. 29. To see what action the Town will take in re- lation to necessary repairs on the Pine Street Schoolhouse, agreeable to the petition of John Chapman and others.
ART. 30. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of fifty dollars ($50), to be placed in the hands of James

L. Bates, Post No. 118, G. A. R., towards defraying the expense of Memorial Day, agreeable to the petition of William G. Earp and others.
ART. 31. To see if the Town will provide two Police Officers for night patrol, who shall be on duty until day- light, and appropriate money for the same, agreeable to the petition of William G. Earp and others.
And you are directed to serve this Warrant by posting attested copies thereof at the Town Hall, Depot, Post- office, and three other public and conspicuous places in the Town, seven days at least before the time of holding said Meeting.
HEREOF FAIL NOT, and make due return of this Warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, at the time and place of meeting, as aforesaid.
