In accordance with the forgoing Warrant the voters of the Town met in the Town Hall on Monday the 2nd day of June 1902 and were called to order at 7.45 o'clock P. M. by the Town Clerk, who read the Warrant calling the meeting and the return thereon.
ART. I. John R. Merritt was chosen Moderator and duly qualified.
ART. 2. On motion of Robert Aery, it was voted 16 to 4 that an additional $1,000 be appropriated on account of the Fifthieth Anniversary making total appropriation for the occa- sion $1,500.
Kendall Pollard here introduced the following resolution : Resolved, That it is the sense of this meeting that the salary of the Janitor of the Town Hall ought to be fifteen dollars ($15.00) per week, the same as the police receive.

Return on the Warrant.
Pursuant to the within Warrant to me directed, I have notified the inhabitants of the Town of Swampscott, to meet at the time and place and for the purpose herein mentioned, by posting up attested copies of said Warrant at the Town Hall, Depots, Post Office, and twenty other public and conspicuous places in said Swampscott, on Saturday, the ninth day of June, 1902, the posting of said notices being seven days at least before the time of said meeting.

In accordance with the foregoing Warrant the voters of the Town assembled at the Town Hall on Monday, June 23, 1902, and were called to order at 12 o'clock noon, by the Town Clerk, who read the Warrant calling the meeting and the return thereon.
ARTICLE I. Edmund Russell was elected Moderator and duly qualified for the duty by the Clerk.
Edward H. Curtis and Abram G. Stone, having been appointed by the Selectmen as Ballot Clerks, and David W. Nisbett as Special Election Officer they were duly qualified by the Clerk.
The package of 1, 200 ballots was delivered to the Ballot Clerks, who receipted therefor. All requirements of the law having been complied with, the polls were declared open for balloting at 12.08 P. M.
On motion, it was voted, that the polls be kept open until 7.24 P. M.
The following having been appointed as tellers were sworn by the Clerk: Wm. H. Webster, Edgar M. Tuttle, Republicans ; and Frank D. Thurston and H. Byron Martin, Democrats. The polls were closed at 7.24 P. M., 567 ballots having been cast. The ballot box register and both check lists agreeing, at 8.08 P. M. the result of the balloting was announced as follows :

Ames the sum of seventy-four dollars and twenty-five cents ($74.25), it being the amount paid by said estate for taxes of 1896, 1897, 1898 and 1899 on land taken October 2d, 1895, by the Metropolitan Park Commissioners, for the park reserva- tion on Humphrey street, on file in Register's Office at Salem, Mass., Oct. 5, 1895, and appropriate money for the same.
ART. 4. To see if the Town will issue bonds, in addition to the one hundred and twenty-four thousand dollars heretofore author- ized by vote of the Town, for the further prosecution of the work of constructing a system of sewerage in the Town, persuant to the provisions of Chapter 86 of the Acts passed by the Legislature of Massachusetts during the session of 1902, and to fix the form, amounts, times of payment, and rate of interest upon such bonds, and to pass any vote necessary to authorize the issue of such bonds and the sale thereof.
ART. 5. To see what compensation, if any, shall be paid to the Sewerage Commissioners, or either of them.

ART. 2 On motion of M. E. Nies, it was Voted, That the sum of $2,000 be, and is hereby appropriated for the erection of a Pest House, the entire matter to be left with the Selectmen.
ART. 3. On motion of H. B. Sprague, it was Voted, That the sum of $74.25 be appropriated to rebate the taxes paid by

the Elisha F. Ames estate on account of land taken from said estate by the Metropolitan Park Commission.
ART. 4. On motion of Weston K. Lewis it was Voted, Yes 92, NO II.
That in addition to the one hundred and twenty-four thousand dollars ($124,000) heretofore appropriated for the purpose of constructing a system of sewerage in the Town, the further sum of sixty thousand dollars, ($60,000) is hereby appropriated and that said sixty thousand dollars be borrowed in behalf of the Town, and that there be issued therefor bonds of the Town of Swampscott for the purpose set forth in Chapter 86, of the Acts and Resolves of the Massachusetts Legislature, for the year 1902, said Act being entitled, "An Act to Authorize the Town of Swampscott to Construct a System of Sewerage;" that there shall be issued for said sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) forty bonds of the denomination of one thousand dollars each, and forty bonds of the denomination of five hundred dollars each, said bonds to have interest coupons attached thereto, and to have the privilege of registration ; said bonds, or any portion thereof, to be sold at such date or dates as may be deemed by the Board of Sewer Commissioners to be for the best interest of the Town; said one thousand dollar bonds to be designated as series C, and numbered consecutively from one to forty, (1 to 40), both in- clusive ; said five hundred dollar bonds to be designated as series D, and numbered consecutively from one to forty (I to 40) both inclusive ; said bonds to be made so payable that one of said bonds for one thousand dollars, and one of five hundred dollars, shall be payable each and every year during the forty years from the issuing thereof, so that the loan secured by said bonds shall be paid in forty, equal, annual payments, each bond to be pay- able with interest at three and one-half per cent (3}) per anum, said interest payable semi-annually in each year at such Bank or Trust Company as the Treasurer shall select and determine, on presentation and surrender of the coupons therefor, as the same shall severally become due; that each of said bonds shall be

signed by the Treasurer of the Town, and countersigned by a majority of the Sewer Commissioners of said Town, and bear on its face the words, "Swampscott Sewerage Loan," and that the Treasurer is hereby directed to affix to each of said bonds the seal of the Town, and to sell or negotiate said bonds under the direction of the Board of the Sewer Commissioners, but not below par; and that the proceeds realized from the sale of said bonds shall be applied to defraying the expenses and liabilities incurred by the Town in carrying out the provisions of said Chapter 86.
ART. 5. Voted, That Article 5 be laid upon the table.

In pursuance of the foregoing Warrant, the voters of the Town assembled in the Town Hall on Tuesday, November 4, 1902, and were called to order at six o'clock A. M., by Joseph M. Bassett, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, and presiding election officer.
The Warrant calling the meeting, and the officer's return there- on, were read by the Town Clerk.

ARTICLE I. Edmund Russell was elected Moderator and duly qualified for that duty by the Clerk.
ART. 2. Voted unanimously, that the sum of seven hundred ($700) dollars be appropriated for a three horse hitch for the Steamer in the Fire Department, also the purchase of two horses, money to be raised by loan, and expended under the direction of the Board of Fire Engineers, and the Board of Selectmen.
ART. 3. Voted unaninously, that the sum of seven hundred ($700) dollars be appropriated for repairs on the Town Hall, in addition to the appropriation made at the Annual Town Meeting, money to be raised by loan.
ART. 4. Voted unanimously that the sum of seventeen hun- dred dollars ($1,700), be appropriated for additions and repairs of Essex Street School House, the amount to be raised by loan.
