REPORT OF THE RECORDS FOR THE YEAR 1934


A meeting was held March 5, 1934 and the following votes were passed and action taken.


Article 1. James H. Hunt was chosen Moderator and sworn in.


The 'Moderator appointed the following tellers for the meeting: Russell Osgood, Warren Woodward, Charles Walls, Agnes Kelliher, Mary Clancy, Nelson Poole.


Article 2. Voted to accept the reports of the various town officers and committees as published in the town re- port with the exception that the report of the committee to Investigate Electric Light Rates be accepted as progressive.

Article 11. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $150.00 for the use of the Plymouth County Trustees for County Aid to Agriculture and to choose James D. Maho- ney as Town Director as provided in Section 41 and 45 of Chapter 128, General Laws.


Article 12. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $3,286.52 for the maintenance of the Plymouth County Hospital.


Article 13. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $600.00 for the maintenance of Traffic Beacons and Sig- nals.


Article 14. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $150.00 to be used by the School Committee, to pay for the expense of heating, lighting and for Casualty Insurance of McKinley School building, as well as additional expense for janitor when the building is used by individuals and asso- ciations for educational, recreational and like purposes, under the provision of Chapter 71, Section 71 of the Gen- eral Laws.


Article 15. Voted to pass over the electing of the Se- lectmen to serve for terms of three years.


Article 16. Voted to pass over the separating of the office of Selectmen and Board of Public Welfare and the electing of a Board of Public Welfare of three members.


Article 17. Voted to pass over the employment of ar. agent, by the Board of Public Welfare, to act as visitor and clerk.

Article 18. Voted not to raise and appropriate a sum of money to build a sidewalk and curb on the southerly side of Market Street, from Albion Street to Dexter Road.


Article 19. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 for an Assessors' Map.


Article 20. Voted not to instruct the Highway Sur- veyor to give preference to married men with families who might be seeking employment on the highways.


Article 21. Voted that the Highway Surveyor use his best judgment in dividing the work done in his department.


Article 22. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $800.00 to repair Everett St., from Stanton Street to Web- ster Street.


Article 23. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $50.00 to be used by the Town Clerk for binding original certificates of Births, Marriages and Deaths.


Article 24. Voted to build a gravel and tarvia road, a distance of 350 feet on that part of Pleasant Street, known as Pleasant Street, West, and that the sum of $400.00 be taken from the appropriation for Highway Repairs to de- fray the cost of same.


Article 25. Voted to pass over the raising and appro- priating of the sum of Five thousand dollars, for use of the committee appointed at the March 1933 meeting to investigate the question of obtaining more favorable rates for current from Electric Light and Power Company of Abington and Rockland and the investigating of the question of purchasing from said Electric Light and Power Company of Abington and Rockland all of its physical property in the Town of Rockland, and the further ques- tion of establishing a municipal electric light and power

Article 27. Voted to pass over the raising and appro- priating of a sum of money to rebuild the sidewalk from School Street to Union Square or take any other action thereon.

Article 29. Voted to pass over the raising and appro- priating of the sum of $2,500.00 to build a sidewalk and curb on the north side of North Ave., from Monk's turn- out to the Abington line a distance of 2400 feet.


Article 30. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 to repair the sidewalk on the easterly side of Union Street, from Lane's Corner to Webster Street.

Article 33. Voted to pass over the appointing of a committee of five to confer with the Federal Public Works Administration relative to securing a grant of money to be expended in the building of a sewerage system in Rockland, such committee to report at a future town meeting; and to raise and appropriate a sum of $300.00 to defray the expenses of the committee.


Article 34. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 for new hose for the Fire Department.


Article 35. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $1250.00 for special equipment for Fire Department which includes Foam Type Generator to take care of gasoline and oil fires, electric lighting equipment, a syphon for pumping out cellars after fires, and also a Deck-Gun.

Article 40. Voted that the Moderator appoint a com- mittee of three to find a place to store and keep the High- way Department tools and equipment.

Article 50. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $475.00 to build a sidewalk and curb on Stanton Street, a distance of 350 feet.

Article 53. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $350.00 for the expenses of the Assessors Department in connection with making an Assessors' Map under Civil Works Projects.


Article 54. Voted to pass over the accepting of the provisions of Chapter 31 of the General Laws relative to placing members of the Police Department under Civil Service Laws.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING


Pursuant to a warrant a meeting was held in the Rock- land Opera House, Monday, July 16, 1934 beginning at 7:30 P. M.


Article 1. Magorisk L. Walls was chosen Moderator and sworn to the faithful discharge of his duties.


Warren B. Woodward, J. Edward Kane and Joseph B. Estes were appointed tellers for the meeting, by the Mod- erator, and sworn.


The number of qualified voters present were counted by the tellers and there were 161 present.


Because there was not 300 voters present no action was taken under Articles 2, 3, and 4.
