JOHN T. HANNA, JR., C. C. CUNDALL, GEORGE H. PALMER, GEORGE W. STEVENS,
Term expires 1896. Term expires 1896. Term expires 1897. Term expires 1898,
REPORT OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE,
From Feb. 15, 1895, to Feb. 15, 1896.
To the Citizens of Fairhaven :
We, the School Committee, hereby submit to you our annual report, with such suggestions and recommendations as we think are for the best good of the schools.
A retrospect of the work of the schools for the past year is very satisfactory. Certain matters during the latter part of the year marred somewhat the harmony of affairs, but we believe that the atmosphere has been cleared, and everything is running along on as healthy a plane as before.
We believe our teachers are striving to make their pupils feel, that earnestness of purpose, guided by right motives, is the great principle of success.
With the steady increase of scholars, both in the north and central part of the town, it is absolutely necessary that we should have more and better accommodations, and in view of the wretched condition of the Oxford school build- ing, together with its being at this time overcrowded, not- withstanding the fact of our having transferred a large number of its pupils to the new room in the Old Shoe Factory, we deem it our duty to recommend the town to erect a new schoolhouse at Oxford Heights. This would do away with the school at the Shoe Factory and also relieve one or two rooms at the Rogers school. You will notice by the inci- dental account that it cost $331.57 for fitting up the Shoe Factory school.
