Annual Town Meeting
MARCH 5, 1949
There were 195 town meeting members present. Louis Boroski and Arthur Knox were sworn in as tellers.
Invocation was given by Rev. Wilfred R. Hamilton of the Center Methodist Church.
MEASURERS OF WOOD AND BARK
ARTICLE 1. Voted to instruct the Selectmen to appoint.
ACCEPTANCE OF REPORT
ARTICLE 2. Voted to accept the report.
TOWN CHARGES
ARTICLE 3. Voted that unless otherwise specified all appropriations be put in the tax levy of 1949.
Resolution offered by the Finance Committee.
Resolved-that a cost of living bonus be paid to each of the regular town employees now on the list supplied to the Finance Committee by the Selectmen's Office. The maximum bonus to amount to 10% of the employees' 1948 carnings from the town or $200, whichever is the largest. However, in cases where there are automatic increases or step-up raises this bonus shall be the difference between the amount of such a raise and 10% of the employees' 1948 earnings, but in no case shall the total of the increase or step-up raise plus the bonus exceed $200. The bonus shall be distributed equally over the regular paydays of each employee.
Mr. Hoxie offered an amendment that no action be taken on the resolution but that action be taken on cach article as it is voted. Mr. Tallman of the opinion the amendment should not carry. Finance Committee chairman said they intended to offer a motion for the amount on each article with the amount of bonus, as it is not a small matter to get this thing on a basis where we can add the 10%. Mr. Hoxie questioned the legality where there is no article in the warrant.
146
Vote on Mr. Hoxie's amendment was lost.
Vote on adoption of the resolution. Unanimous except for 2 votes in the negative.
