The number of children in town, between the ages of 5 and 15, May Ist, ISSO. as ascertained by the assessors, was 135.

The committee have exchanged grammar and spelling books within the year. at a nominal expense of $33.48, although the actual expense is much less. for every scholar now has a new book in place of the old ones. We propose to arrange as soon as convenient, so that the school books may be found at all the stores in town.

The committee have paid out $23.39 from the appropriation of $50.00 made last year. We have left, $26.61 in the treasury. Seven hundred and fifty dollars should be appropriated for the support of schools the coming year.

Report of the Overseers of the Poor

OF THE TOWN OF OAKHAM, FOR THE YEAR ENDING JANUARY 1, ISS3.

During the past year the demands upon the town for support of those who are in want, have been less numerous than in former years, and there is every probability that during the coming year greater demands will be made upon the treasury of the town, than in the past.

The Overseers congratulate themselves that all the new applicants who have applied for assistance, have been denied, and their legal settle- ment proved elsewhere.
