REPORT OF THE LOCAL MOTH SUPERINTENDENT.
Our work of 1917 consisted almost entirely of protection work to the cranberry bogs. And I think a great deal of good was done for the bog owners. We are now starting January 28th to continue the bog work as there are some few bog owners, who have not yet had any work done around their bogs.
I would like to say here, that the State Department wishes it to be made plain to the bog owners, that it would be im- possible for anyone to get more protection, that has already once had his shores cut and cleaned up, and has not kept them from growing up again.
In regard to Arsenate of Lead after taking the matter up with the Selectmen and Cranberry Committee we decided to use the State lead as we did not feel that it would be advisable to ask for an appropriation of about nine hundred dollars ($900) the difference between the State and other Manufac- tures prices, and nearly all other towns are using it.
While the last spraying season was not the most satisfactory we must remember that we lost the first two weeks on account of rainy weather, which is the best part of the season to get results as the Moths are small and easy to kill.
The four small sprayers are in the factory being over-hauled and with good weather conditions we hope for better results the coming season.
HERBERT F. ATWOOD,
Local Superintendent.
