Out of this amount approximately $11,670.00 was used to purchase and apply 38,900 gallons of asphalt for sealing the streets. The remain- ing $13,080.00 was used for patching, catch basins, culverts, shoulders and other miscellaneous maintenance operations.

The Chapter 90 allotment of $34,000.00 of which the town appropriated $8,500.00, the County $8,500.00 and the State $17,000.00 was used on two streets. $24,000.00 was allotted for Main Street where 1400 feet of road was com- pletely built to a width of 26 feet with proper drainage, nine inches of new gravel and approximately 700 tons of Bitu- minous Concrete Type I surface applied.

The remaining $10,000.00 was spent on Tremont Street where 1600 feet of the existing 18 foot road was widened to 26 feet with 9 inches of gravel and three inches of type C 1 was applied.

1962 REPORT OF THE LIBRARY TRUSTEES

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen Carver, Massachusetts

Gentlemen:

The outstanding single non-fiction purchase in 1962 was the Dictionary of American Biography in eleven volumes, a work now found in even the small libraries and used exten- sively by the High School students.

We are grateful to the donors of many good books and magazines offering a greater variety in reading material, and the picture puzzles the children have enjoyed. The reg- ular visits of the bookmobile play an important part in making available to our readers many books we couldn't possibly purchase.

The newly organized Carver Garden Club has afforded the patrons and visitors much pleasure with artistic arrange- ments of garden flowers, grasses, berries, and a clever little winter version of Huckleberry Finn has been a delight to young and old for many weeks.

The increasing number of parents who bring their children to explore in the world of books has boosted the circulation figures once again, and the library trustees and staff wish to thank all these friends and patrons for their spirit of helpfulness and co-operation in carrying on the work of a growing educational institution.

This year a U. S. survey was completed which adds in- formation to the usual annual statistics which you may find interesting.

The number of hours the library is open to the public has been increased to ten: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 6-9 P. M., and Saturday afternoons 1-5 P. M.

A cordial invitation is extended to all townspeople to come and visit their library, become regular borrowers, and prove that reading can be fun !
