TOWN WARRANT


COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS


Worcester, ss.


To either of the constables of the Town of Oakham, in the County of Worcester:


GREETINGS:


In the name of the Selectmen of the Town of Oakham, County of Worcester, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Oakham qualified to vote in elections, and in town affairs to meet in the town hall, known as Memorial Hall, on Monday, the fourth day of March next at 12M at which time the polls will be opened. Polls will be closed at 8 P.M.


The business meeting will open at 8 P.M. then and there to act on the following articles:


Article 1. To hear the annual reports of the several town officers and to act thereon. Her


Article 2. To choose one Selectman, one Assessor, one member of the School Committee, one Library Trustee, and one member of the Cemetery Committee, all for three year terms; one member of the Cemetery Committee for a two year term; one Planning Board member for a five year term; a Moderator, Collector of Taxes, Treasurer, Auditor, Tree War- den and three Fence Viewers for one year terms, all on one ballot.


Article 3. To choose all the necessary town officers and committees for the ensuing year not required to be elected by ballot.


Article 4. To see if the town will vote to fix the salaries and compensation of all elective officers of the town as pro- vided for by Section 108, Chapter 41 of the General Laws.


Article 5. To see what compensation the town will allow for men and equipment used in repairing highways and open- ing roads during the ensuing year.


Article 6. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate or appropriate from available funds in the treasury such sums of money as are necessary to pay salaries, expenses and outlays of the several town departments for the ensuing year.


Article 7. To see if the town will vote to authorize the treasurer, with the approval of the selectmen to borrow during the current fiscal year, in anticipation of the revenue of said year, such sums of money as may be necessary for the current

expenses of the town, giving the note or notes of the town therefor, these notes to be paid from the revenue of said fis- cal year.


Article 8. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate or appropriate from available funds in the treasury a sum of money for Chapter 81 Highway Maintenance, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 9. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate or appropriate from available funds in the treasury a sum of money for Chapter 90 Highway Maintenance, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 10. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate or appropriate from available funds in the treas- ury a sum of money for the improvement of New Braintree Road under Chapter 90 Highway Construction, or tak any action relative thereto.


Article 11. To see if the town will vote to appropriate the sum of $500 from the Overlay Surplus for the purposes of a Reserve Fund, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 12. To see if the town will vote to transfer the sum of $1,000 or any other amount from the Highway Mach- inery Fund to the Highway Machinery Account, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 13. To see if the town will vote to authorize and instruct the Board of Assessors to appropriate the sum of $5,000, or any other amount from available funds in the treas- ury for the purpose of reducing the tax levy for the current year, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 14. To see if the town will vote to accept any trust funds which may be left to the town for the care of ceme- teries, or for any other purpose.


Article 15. To hear the report of the Oakham Bicenten- nial Celebration Committee and to act thereon.


Article 16. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $500 to oil a section of Foley Road, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 17. To see if the town will vote to accept Sec- tion III of Chapter 41 of the General Laws as amended by Chapter 15, Acts of 1937, providing for vacation for certain town employees, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 18. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $340 for vacation pay for the highway employees, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 19. To see if the town will vote to accept Sec- tion 6C of Chapter 40 of the General Laws, authorizing the town to appropriate money for the removal of snow and ice

from such private ways within its limits and open to public use as may be designated by the selectmen, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 20. To see if the town will vote to accept Section 6F of Chapter 40 of the General Laws authorizing the town to make certain repairs on private ways which have been opened to the public for six years or more, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 21. To see if the town will vote to abolish the office of Town Auditor as provided by Chapter 41, Section 55.


Article 22. To see if the town will vote to increase the salary of the members of the School Committee to $325.00 per annum, the clerk of the committee to receive $125.00 and the other two members $100.00 respectively, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to purchase Dean Reservoir together with all rights appurtenant or con- nected with the same, including the dam at said Reservoir, and to raise and appropriate the sum of $1700 to meet the cost of purchase and legal expenses incurred in acquiring the same, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 24. To see if the Town will vote to petition the Massachusetts Electric Company to install one street light on North Brookfield Road in the vicinity of property owned by Adam Chestna, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 25. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of $5,123.18, or any sum less than this amount, from available funds in the treasury, if and when such funds are received from the Commonwealth, for the permanent repair of a section of Barre Road, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 26. To see if the Town will vote to purchase a resuscitator and to raise and appropriate the sum of $500 to meet the cost thereof, or take any action relative thereto.


And you are required to serve this warrant by posting attested copies in at least three public places in said town seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.


Hereof fail not and make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk at the time and place of holding meeting as aforesaid.
