One Gentleman faid to belong to the Committee on the part of Opposition was prevented attending this Meeting, Joon after it was proposed by him to have another Meeting of the Parties to hear and consider of something further on the Subject, this was agreed to, and another Meeting took place the fifth Day of March. It was then proporter by the Gentlemen on the part of opposition, to allow the legality of the Apesment, upon condition the Town wold make allowances to each of them, equal to the Jums they were charged with in the Aprepiment. By this Proposal the Sown was required to difcharge them from paying their pro - portions of an Apepment of Libro. They refusing to exhibit as all others had done an account of the Jums fraid by them towards raising the Soldiers, the Committee were not certified that fuch allowances as they proposed were justly due to them and did not apent thereto, considering that a very uncertain method for compleating that justice which the Town had at all Times aimed to establish by the measures They adopted and invariably, maintained with respect to The Gooff of procureing Soldiers from the commencement of the War to the time of raising the Men in 1981.
The fifth of April it was proposed to some of the Committee by certain Perjons on the part of opposition, to leave to the judgement of three judicious disinterested Men to deter = mine whether their Proposal of the Fifth of March as before mentioned wear not a generous one, and if it was not, then to determine what would be to. This proposal for fulmiting to Reference, a Matter of fo much importance frated in Forms fo cafive and partial, that the publice of the cause hear excluded, and the generality of one of the Parties the only Article to be adjusted; nous considered inadmifiable.
