It was moved and seconded that the sum of $500.00 be appro- priated for Town Hall-Oil Burner or Stoker.


Voice vote. Motion carried.


Moved by Mr. Standish Bradford and seconded: That the sum of $13,500.00 be appropriated for Highways, $500.00 of which shall be set up to be expended for repairs on highways constructed under Chapter 90 in conjunction with any money allotted by the state or county or both for this purpose.


Voice vote. Appropriations unanimously made.


It was moved and seconded that the sum of $41,203.66 plus the dog tax be appropriated for Schools.


Voice vote. Appropriations unanimously made.


Article V. "To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $14,500.00 to be expended for work to be done on the highways, cemetery, the parks or for fire protection and for materials and implements, to provide work for the needy unemployed of the town. or take any action thereon."


Moved by Mr. Standish Bradford and seconded: That the sum of $14,500.00 be appropriated for work to be done on the high- ways, cemetery, the parks or for fire protection and for materials and implements, to provide work for the needy unemployed of the town and also for providing co-operation with the Federal Government in unemployment relief and other proj- ects of direct or indirect benefit to the town or its inhabitants, the work to be done under the direction of the selectmen, who

shall have authority to apportion, supervise and expend said $14,500.00, and further that the present Unemployment Commit- tee be requested to co-operate with the Selectmen in ascertaining to whom work shall be given.


Voice vote. Motion unanimously carried.


Article VI. "To see if the town will vote to continue the building of permanent highways on Bridge Street and Asbury Street, and to make repairs on the Highland Street bridge, said highways and bridge to be built jointly by the State, County and Town, and to raise and appropriate the sum of $7,500.00 for the Town's share of the cost of above work, or take any action thereon."


Moved by Mr. Standish Bradford, and seconded: That the town continue the building of permanent highways on Bridge Street and on Asbury Street, and make repairs to the Highland Street bridge, said highways to be built and said bridge to be repaired jointly by the State, County and Town, and that the town raise and appropriate the sum of $7,500.00 for the town's share of said work, said amount to be raised from the tax levy of the present year.


Voice vote. Motion unanimously carried.


Article VII. "To see if the Town will acquire land by pur- chase, by eminent domain or otherwise, for the purpose of estab- lishing a park for playground and swimming pool purposes for the children and inhabitants of the town, appropriate a sum of money for the same or take any action thereon as petitioned for by Robert B. Walsh and others."

mittee of five, consisting of three men and two women, be ap- pointed by the Moderator for the purpose of inquiring into the feasibility of the same, to report at the next annual meeting, and that the sum of twenty-five ($25.00) dollars, be appropriated to be expended by the committee if necessary in acquiring data.


After considerable discussion Mr. Walsh asked that the motion be divided for voting purposes.


Moved by Mr. Standish Bradford and seconded : That the Com- mittee also look into the question of the demand for a playground.


Mr. Walsh accepted Mr. Bradford's amendment.


Proceeded to vote on the first part of the motion: That the Town favors in principle the establishment of a municipal park for general playground purposes and the installation of a swim- ming pool for the children and inhabitants thereof only.


Voice vote. Motion carried.


Proceeded to vote on the second part of Mr. Walsh's motion and Mr. Bradford's amendment: That a committee of five, con- sisting of three men and two women, be appointed by the Mod- erator for the purpose of inquiring into the feasibility of the same, to report at the next annual meeting, and that the sum of twenty- five ($25.00) dollars, be appropriated to be expended by the com- mittee if necessary in acquiring data and that the Committee also look into the demand for a playground.


Voice vote. Motion unanimously carried.


Article VIII. "To see if the Town will vote to change the name of Central Park in memory of Manasseh Cutler, a nationally famous citizen of Hamilton, and to see if the Town will appoint a Committee, to be chosen by the moderator to select and super- vise the erection of a suitable memorial to be placed in said park and appropriate a sum of money for same as petitioned for by Sydney A. Smith and others."

of Central Park be changed to Manasseh Cutler Park. Voice vote. Motion carried.


Article IX. "To see if the Town will change the name of Farms Road to Cutler's Road in memory of Manasseh Cutler as petitioned for by Sydney A. Smith and others."


Moved by Mr. Sydney A. Smith and seconded : That the name of Farms Road be changed to Cutler's Road.


Voice vote. Moderator declared motion carried.


The decision of the Moderator was doubted.


The Moderator then called for a rising vote and appointed the following tellers :

Article X. "To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1938, and to issue a note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws."


Moved by Mr. George E. Smith, and seconded : That the Town Treasurer be and hereby is authorized, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1938, and to issue a note or notes of the town therefor payable within one year and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a part of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44 of the General Laws and amendments, thereto.


Voice vote. Motion unanimously adopted.

Article XI. "To see if the Town will authorize the Collector to use all means of collecting taxes which a Town Treasurer, when appointed Collector, may use agreeable to Chapter 41, Sec- tion 37, of the General Laws."


Moved by Mr. Standish Bradford, and seconded : That the Town of Hamilton authorize the Collector of Taxes to use all means of collecting taxes which a town treasurer when appointed Collector may use agreeable to Section 37, Chapter 41, of the General Laws and amendments thereto.


Voice vote. Motion unanimously carried.


Article XII. "To act on any other matter that may legally come before said meeting."


Moved by Mr. Percival D. Whipple and seconded : "Be it re- solved that this meeting is opposed to any attempt to impair the Independence of the Supreme Court and that a copy of this vote be sent to our two Senators and to our Representatives in Con- gress."


The Moderator sought the opinion of Town Counsel, Robert B. Walsh as to the legality of the motion. On Point of order being made the motion was ruled as being in order but was with- drawn by Mr. Whipple.
