The prize from Clark fund was awarded to Frank A. Loud." The attendance in this school has not been as uniform as it has in previous years, owing no doubt to the prevalence of measles, during the fall term.
(35)
36
The same teacher has been employed in this school during the entire school year, and the result has been very beneficial to the scholars, showing that faithful and continued work by the same teacher will secure better results than can be obtained by a change of teacher every term.
Your committee have remodeled this school house, putting in a new floor, and changing the location of the seats, and with the addition of the new blackboards, have made a comfortable, con- venient and neat looking room for our children, and we think that no one can say the money was not well expended.
The cost of repairs as near as we can divide the expenses, are as follows :

The general deportment in this school as found by the register has been good. Your Committee have also observed that the moral influence which has pervaded the school, has been such as would tend to elevate the scholar while endeavoring to instruct him, a fact which we cannot too highly prize.
37
The change in this school house has been greater in many respects than in the center, and you have now perhaps the most comfortable as well as convenient school house in town. There is ample room for the scholars in stormy weather to exercise without injuring the inside of the school room, and there is no reason why this room cannot be kept in just as good condition for many years.
The approximate cost is as follows :
For Desks,
$62 00

The record of attendance and the general deportment of this school has been uniformly good through the entire year.
The children from the Northeast school have attended this school through the entire year, and the cost of transportation has been much less than the maintenance of a school in this part of the town.
For several years there has been no place where the scholars of this school could be protected from the inclemency of the
38
weather, and we have thought it was no more than justice to these scholars that a place be provided for them, consequently we have built a shed at an expense of about $40.00 and find that it sup- plies a long felt necessity, and has repaid the cost even during the past year.

This school has again been under the same teacher as the year previous, and although in some branches there has not been the desired progress, in others we can see a marked improvement. The older scholars in this as well as in the other schools need instruction in branches not taught in common schools, and they could be greatly benefitted by even one term a year in a select school.
There has been expended in this school, for

When the account of the School Committee was examined by the Auditors, there remained a small balance to their credit. The expenses of the North-west School which has closed since, will more than cover this balance and we shall overdraw our ac- count to the amount shown by the above figures.
