FREEMAN , ELIZABETH, ( colored) known by the name of "MUMBET", died Dec.28,1829. Her supposed age was 85 years. She was born a slave and remained a slave for nearly thirty years. She could neither read nor write, yet in her own sphere she had no superior nor equal. She neither wasted time nor property. She never violated a trust nor failed to perform a duty. In every situation of domestic trial, she was the most efficient helper and the tenderest friend.
Good mother, farewell.

Warner Exhibit At Library Features Book
STOCKBRIDGE - A George Warner exhibit is on display in the main lobby of the public library, featuring his book "Greenbelt: The Cooperative Community."
Mr. Warner, a native of this town, is a graduate of Williams High School in the class of 1919. He moved to Washington in 1921 to take a position with the State Department. That year he married Claire E. Pratt of Pittsfield and for the next 17 years they lived in Washington.
In 1938 they moved, with their daughter and twin sons, to Green- belt, Md. While at Greenbelt, Mr. Warner served a term as mayor. He is president and treasurer of the Germantown Cooperative Assn. and holds the same offices in the association's Federal Credit Union.
His story tells the story of Green- belt, a planned community and one of the most famous in this coun- try. Greenbelt was started by the federal government in 1935 as an experiment in community plan- ning. Mr. Warner recounts the many problems the first residents of that town faced and solved.
The exhibit includes a program of the Williams High 1919 com- mencement exercises as well as gifts of Mr. Warner to the histori- cal room, particularly those re- lating to family records. The Warner family at one time owned hundreds of acres in Glendale which were bought from the In- dians. Mr. Warner's uncle, Mar- shall Warner, sold to Daniel Ches- ter French "Chesterwood." Mr. Warner's parents owned the War- ner homestead now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Gray.
