FIRST GENERATION.
1.
Dea. Edward Convers,1 born (as is supposed) Jan. 30, 1590, died Aug. 10, 1663. He may have married in England, Jane Clarke, who, in that case, probably died before 1617. He married as early as 1617, in England, Sarah -, who died Jan. 14, 1662. He came in the fleet with Winthrop in 1630, and settled in Charlestown. He took a prominent part in the settle- ment of Woburn in 1640, and in that year erected the first dwelling hr within the then limits of Woburn. There seems little doubt that it oc very nearly the site of the old house now owned by Abijah - Thompson on the east side of Main street in Winchester, a fe- the Aberjona River. Shortly after, he erected the Conver' house. See Winchester Record, Vol. I., pp. 225, 242, 24 article by the present writer in the Winchester Star for Jul Convers married again, Sept. 9, 1662, Joanna (Corbin) Spr. igue, 1. Ralph Sprague ; she died Feb. 24, 1680.
His children were :

Mary,2 b. about 1622; m., first, Dec. 19, 1643, Simon Thompson, second son of James Thompson; he died May, 1658; by him she ha l two sons and four daughters, but only one son and one daughter are known to have reached maturity; second, Feb. 1, 1659, John Sheldon of Billerica, who died May 24, 1690; by him she had a son, John Sheldon, Jr., b. 1660; m., Nov. 20, 1690, Deborah Hill (daughter of Ralph). He died Aug. 27, 1724, and his widow died Jan. 11, 1730; they had : John, Mary, Samuel, Deborah and Hannah.
15. (Sergt.) Samuel,2 b. in Charlestown, baptized March 12, 1638; killed Feb. 20, 1669, by an accident in the Convers Mill.

Dea. Josiah Convers2 m., March 26, 1651, Esther (or Hester) Champney, daughter of Richard of Cambridge; after his death she m., Nov. 17, 1690, Jonathan Danforth of Billerica, and died April 5, 1713. Dea. Josiah lived in a house situated very near what is now the northwest corner of Main and Church streets, Winchester. The house was owned by his father, who devised it to him in tail.
He had one child :

Lieut. James Convers2 m., first, Oct. 24, 1643, Anna Long, daughter of Robert Long of Charlestown; she died Aug. 10, 1691; second, in 1692, Anna (Sparhawk) Cooper, widow of Dea. John, and daughter of Dea. Nathaniel Sparhawk of Cambridge. The children of James and Anna (Long) Convers were :
