Battery G, Michigan Artillery, was also largely made up of Branch county men, and was mustered into service at Kalamazoo, January 16, 1862. Its first service was in Kentucky and along the Ohio river into West Vir- ginia. It was then a part of Sherman's forces operating in northern Missis- sippi, and with Grant about Vicksburg, rendering specially valuable service in the movement against Jackson. It later was sent to Louisiana and along the Texas coast, and finally took part in the siege and capture of Mobile. It was mustered out of service at Jackson, Michigan, August 6, 1865.
