Overview of Hertford County Records
- Hertford County was created in 1754 from Bertie, Chowan, and Northampton counties.
- Copies of birth and death certificates for 1916 and later can be obtained from the North Carolina Vital Records Office.
- The Hertford County courthouse burned in 1822 and 1830 and destroyed majority of the records.
- The Hertford County Register of Deeds has birth records starting in 1913, death records starting in 1913, marriage records starting in 1884, and land records starting in 1866.
- The Hertford County Clerk Superior Court has court records starting in 1883 and probate records starting in 1869.
