REPORT OF SCHOOL BOARD.
To the Citizens of the Town of Lyndeborough:
The school board respectfully submits the following report for the year ending February 15, 1911:
At the annual meeting of the school district, Fred B. Richards was elected moderator; Algernon W. Putnam, clerk; Charles H. Tarbell, treasurer; Jacob A. Woodward, auditor, and Frank O. Baxter, a member of the board of education for the term of three years.
The school board organized with Ella R. Holt, chair- man; Frank O. Baxter, secretary.
The sum of fifty dollars was appropriated for the pur- pose of making alterations and repairs at the Southwest school. This amount was insufficient and we were com- pelled to draw on the school money for the balance.
Six schools have been in session during the school year and nine teachers employed.
Until it becomes possible to retain the services of desir- able teachers for at least the full school year, it will be unreasonable to expect the best results.
The attendance at four of our schools has been very good throughout the year. Two schools have shown quite a falling off during the winter term. A good many of those absent and tardy marks on our school registers are entirely owing to indifference on the part of the parents. We wish to call your attention to the fact that in December this town received from the state on account of the excel- lent record of attendance during the previous school year, $74.49. This money is to be had every year that we can show the required percentage of attendance. We want all the money from the state that we can possibly get and we insist upon your aid in this matter of regularity of attendance.
29
Discipline is certainly necessary in every school. Do not leave it altogether with the teacher, however. The cooperation of the parents will lend material assistance in placing the school on a proper basis in this respect.
The estimate of requirements for the coming year will be fully explained at the district meeting.
Please accept our thanks for the courteous treatment we have received during the past year.
Respectfully submitted,
ELLA R. HOLT, IRA R. BROWN, FRANK O. BAXTER, Members of School Board.
