INDUSTRIAL DIRECTORY OF NEW JERSEY.

Woodbine has three railroad stations-Woodbine station and the Mount Pleasant station on the West Jersey and Seashore Railroad, which are two and a half miles apart. The factories of the town have the Woodbine station in the center of them; there is a third station on the South Jersey Railroad, about a mile and a half from the Woodbine station and one mile from the Mount Pleasant station.

There is plenty of land available for factory sites and can be obtained for nominal price. There are now two brick buildings, one 212 x 36 and one 176 x 40, and a third factory, now being erected, will be 141 x 49; all are brick, two stories high. Tailoring, knitting and the manufacture of machinery are the industries that will be carried on in them. The power available is steam and electricity. There is a system of water-works connected with the factories. It is intended to put up during the coming summer a central station to supply the factories and town with, steam, water and light.

The special advantages offered to the manufacturers consist of giving to them a building and power free of charge for a certain period of time, pro- vided the manufacturer pays out a fixed amount of wages every year.

The advantages for the manufacturer are that he has labor which is less turbulent than in the large cities, where they are under the influence of agi- tators, and there is a better relation between the employer and employe. Though the laborer may average less wages than in the city, in the long run he is better off than the city workman, because of having steadier employ- ment.

The following industries are now in operation :

Daniel & Blumenthal, manufacturers of clothing; employ 150 persons.

Woodbine Machine Tool Company, manufacturers of machinery and well points; employs 20 persons.
