GENESEE WESLEYAN SEMINARY.

The methods used in instruction upon the Pianoforte and Organ are those used by artistic performers. While technique is dwelt upon as of the greatest importance in intelligent interpretation of the works of the masters, the principles of expression are also carefully studied.

During the senior year students of the piano will be required to practice at least four hours per day on the piano and one-half hour on technicon. Exceptions can be made only in case of the illness of students or rare ability. Frequent opportunities for ensemble practice are given in this grade.

The Pipe Organ in the Seminary Chapel furnishes fine facilities for practice. Pupils are strongly urged not to attempt this instru- ment before acquiring a considerable fluency of execution upon the piano.

Voice culture is taught according to the Old Italian Method, which is considered the most favorable for the development of purity of tone and the equalization of the vocal registers. In this method no forcing of the voice is allowed.

Each student of music is expected to perform at the weekly Recitals at least once during each term.

Candidates for graduation are required to study Goetschin's Materials of Musical Composition, complete. Theory may be studied by correspondence, if desired.

Classes are formed in notation and sight reading and for the study of part songs and choral works.

Sheet music is furnished at a liberal discount.
