New York City-Central Office Designations
Use of Distinguishing Numerals
All teleplione central offices in New York City are des- ignated by y mumtr aud a numeral: for example, SU'nset .6. In many cases there exist one or more other central offices with the same name but a different numeral. Thus, there is a MA 'n 2 and also a MA in 4. As additional central offices are ugroduced from time to time, they are given the' same name is an existing central office in the same section of the city, But with a different numeral.
it is therefore necessary that both the office name and the office nu'neral be used in making a call to any telephone
in New York City, in order that the call may be properly routed to the desired central office.
How Calls Should Be Made
Calls from' dial telephones should be made hy dialing the e first two letters of the office name (which appear capitalizedl,; in the listings), the central office numeral and the line num- ber. For example, if a member appears as PR ospect 9-5070, it should be dialed P-R-9. 5-0-7-0.
In calling by voice, the number should be given thus : Prospect nine-five-ph-seven-oh. .
